In Wittersdorf (population 843 in 2011), park in the car park next to the church.
(S/E) Take the street that goes uphill, leaving the church on your right (red ring). A few metres further on, continue along this street to the left and follow the marked path (green ring, red triangle, green disc).
(1) At the fork, go up to the right towards Emlingen (green ring, red ring) until you reach a playground set up in a former quarry. Continue towards Emlingen (green ring). 100 metres further on, you will reach the huge clearing at the top, which is used for agriculture. Continue straight ahead along the marked path.
(2) When you reach the forest, descend to the right (green ring). Immediately ignore a path on the left. At a T-junction, turn left. Then ignore a path coming from the right, head due east and ignore a path on the left.
(3) At the next junction, turn left towards Walheim (green ring, Talrain circuit). When a path comes from the left, continue straight ahead to the north-west.
(4) The botanical trail leaves the Talrain circuit between plots 11 and 12 and descends to the right. Follow it, then turn left when you reach a carriage road. Continue straight ahead along the edge of the woods and then into the forest.
(5) After 750m, you will come to a fork. Turn right, where the old Emlingen lime kilns still stand. Retrace your steps.
(5) Continue north-northwest. At elevation 344, turn left until you reach the edge of the forest and walk along a field on your right for a few metres. Take the path that climbs between plots 8 and 4 (in the opposite direction to mountain bike trail no. 15). Continue climbing straight ahead, ignoring any junctions, until you reach a wide path.
Turn right between plots 4 and 5 and continue to the edge of the forest (green ring). At the edge of the forest, turn left.
(6) At the crossroads, continue left towards Wittersdorf (red triangle, green ring). Head south-southwest, ignoring all the side roads.
(7) At the water reservoir, continue straight ahead for 50 metres towards Wittersdorf (red triangle, red ring, green ring) until you reach an old blockhouse. Retrace your steps.
(7) Turn left (west) and descend the heritage trail (red ring). At the next crossroads, turn left to reach Wittersdorf (blue diamond, red ring), ignoring the paths on the right.
(1) Return to Wittersdorf church (S/E) via the same route as on the way there.
