Park in the small car park opposite the school.
(S/E) Leave the car park by taking Rue de l’Église westwards (away from the school, which is on the other side of Route de Périgné).
Continue along this street to the hamlet of Souchon.
On arrival, turn right onto Chemin de Souchon and immediately right again onto a farm track which soon crosses the River Belle via a small stone bridge.
After the stone bridge, a sign explains that the route follows the Chemin de Champerouze, along the edge of which trees were planted by pupils from the school in Montigné in 2003.
At the next crossroads, turn right towards the hamlet of Le Chaffaud.
The path leads out onto Impasse de la Vallée. Turn left, then left again onto Route de Périgné.
(1) Carefully walk up the Route de Périgné for about 10 metres. Cross it carefully to take the small road on the right, which goes uphill.
Shortly afterwards, at a right-hand bend in the road, continue straight on along the farm track which passes under a high-voltage power line before joining a road at a T-junction.
(2) Continue straight on along Rue Maison l'Abbé Verrines.
At the next Y-junction, where there is a house with blue shutters, take the left-hand street, cross Chemin des Écoliers further on and continue along Rue du Prieuré.
A little further on, turn right and walk down a wide grassy slope towards the town hall. On the way down, veer left to take the narrow lane on the left-hand side of the town hall building. After the lane, walk alongside the town hall to admire the chancel of Verrines church. In the corner to the right of the small square, you’ll see a bread oven under the lean-to next to the town hall. As you pass, take a look at the well at the back of the church’s chancel.
Take the path between the cemetery on your right and the church on your left. In the cemetery, there are many distinctive Protestant graves.
Continue with your back to the church gate, go down the path to reach Rue de l’Église Verrines, then Route de Périgné.
(3) Cross the Route de Montigné with great care and continue straight on along the Impasse des Passerelles towards the River Belle.
Cross the two branches of the river via the stone bridges and head towards the street in the hamlet of La Dreurie, situated slightly downstream.
Continue straight on to Route de Montifaut. Turn left and take Route de Montifaut with care.
Pass by the house in the hamlet of La Garenne.
(4) At the next junction with two farm tracks, take the one furthest to the right (sharp bend), which joins the road leading from Montifaut to Saumon further on.
When you reach this road, turn left towards Saumon. Do the same at the next crossroads to take the Route de la Croix du Chêne.
(5) At the entrance to Saumon, turn right into Rue des Talles, then take Chemin du Puits on the left and Allée des Bois on the left to go round the village of Saumon. Complete the tour of the village by taking Rue des Tisserands, turning left.
When you reach Route de la Croix du Chêne, turn left and continue for about 100 metres.
(6) Turn right onto a road heading south-east.
When you reach the first houses, turn right onto Chemin de Chatry, then turn left onto Route de Saumon.
(7) Immediately turn right onto Chemin du Puits Maigreau, which runs alongside the bed of the River Belle. A short stop is in order a little further on at the wash house and fountain known as Le Marais, by the roadside (on the right-hand side).
Continue straight on along this path (narrow road) which passes beneath the hamlet of Le Grand Puy Maigreau, then Le Petit Puy Maigreau, before reaching a small T-junction.
Turn left and continue straight on until you reach the Route de Saint-Médard.
(8) At the junction with the Route du Chaumeau, turn left. Cross the River Belle.
Shortly afterwards, turn left into the Venelle du Moulin. Continue to the end of this lane to reach Rue de l’Église and turn right into this street.
Shortly afterwards, the route returns to the car park, which marks the end of this walk (S/E)
