Around Chatuzange-le-Goubet

Car-free country lanes, magnificent views, beautiful, peaceful countryside, with few climbs – and those that are present are short and gentle. On one side, the cliffs of the Vercors; on the other, the Drôme des Collines and the Ardèche mountains – all set amidst the countryside, passing through a few hamlets.

Description of the route

Start from Rue Zamenhof, the Vercors Sports Complex car park.

(S/E) Head towards Boulevard des Alpes Provence and cross it at the pedestrian crossings. Follow the street almost directly opposite, towards the town centre. At the roundabout, take the first exit and carry on straight ahead along Rue Charles Mossant until you reach the end of the street.

(1) Turn left towards the Romans-sur-Isère cycle route (small sign). At the next junction, go straight on along Rue du 27 Août, towards the banks of the Isère and the Lamarche car park. After about 200 m, turn right onto Rue de l’Abreuvoir and head for the banks of the Isère.

(2) Turn left and follow the riverbanks southwards. A few metres before the footbridge over the Isère, follow the road as it turns left onto the Grand Rue.

(3) Turn right towards Valence and follow the Grand-Rue, then take the D 2532N on the right for about 100 metres.

(4) Opposite, take the parallel road leading uphill, the Route de la Maladière. Follow this road, passing the roads on your left and then on your right, until you are running alongside the Canal de la Bourne on the right-hand bank, as far as the hamlet of Barre.

(5) Cross the bridge over the canal and follow the Chemin de Moïse straight on until you reach the hamlet of Les Faures.

(6) At the junction, turn left. Just after the sign marking the exit from Les Faures, at the Fork in the road, take the right-hand track. Follow the straight road until you reach the next junction.

(7) Carry on to the right, then, at the start of the climb, turn right towards Bourne and La Douce. Follow the Route de l’Hermitage until you reach a four-way junction.

(8) Cross the road and carry on straight ahead along Chemin de Saint-Jean, towards Les Routes. At the multi-way junction with a central reservation, at the ‘Give Way’ sign, turn left (D 302) and continue along this road until you reach a four-way junction in the Le Cheylard neighbourhood.

(9) Turn right onto Route des Compagnons, then cross the D 149 and continue straight ahead onto Route des Cisterciens. Follow this road until you reach a side road.

(10) Turn left towards Pinet and continue along the road until you reach a three-way junction.

(11) Turn right and follow Route de Saint-Alban. Carry on straight ahead and you will soon come to a junction (with household waste bins on the right) after passing a woodland on your left.

(12) Turn right and pass the household waste bins.

(13) At the three-way junction, turn left onto Chemin de la Chapelle. As you leave the hamlet of Les Liouds, turn left and follow the road to the tunnel under the motorway.

(14) Go under the motorway, then turn left a few metres further on onto Rue du 19 mars 1962. Cross the Canal de la Bourne, then go under another road bridge and continue to the next roundabout.

(15) Carry on along the street opposite. At the four-way junction ahead, turn right onto Rue Félix Tournigand, then turn left onto Rue des Écoles. At the Stop sign, carry on straight ahead onto Rue du 8 Mai.

(16) At the sign marking the end of the built-up area of Pizançon, carry straight on along Rue Marius Moutet and follow it to the end. At the five-way junction, turn right; at the next junction, turn left; and
carry on straight ahead to the car park at the Complexe Sportif du Vercors (S/E).
