At the foot of the Monédières, Seilhac

Starting from Seilhac, this yellow-marked route offers lovely views of the Monédières and runs alongside Lake Bournazel. The route is generally well shaded.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park at Place de l’Horloge in Seilhac.

(S/E) Turn left, heading due east, onto Avenue Nationale and drive through the town to Montargis. Take a street on the left to join the Route des Monédières.

(1) Cross this road and take the path directly opposite, which veers slightly to the right. Follow this path to the junction.

(2) Take the path leading down to the left. Cross a stream, then follow the path which climbs again after passing a water source. When you reach the road, turn right towards the hamlet of Vintejoux. Take the first street on the left to cross the hamlet, then take a path that descends to the left between two buildings. When you cross a stream, leave a path not shown on the map to your right.

(3) When you reach the road, turn right, leaving the Moulin de la Gorse on your left, and head back up the road towards Imbier. Leave the road at a right-hand bend and continue straight ahead along the path. Carry on to the left until you reach the hamlet of Le Mons.
On leaving the hamlet, immediately leave the road via the first path leading down to the right. Then stay on the path on the left, cross a stream and head up to Le Chastang.

(4) Continue along the road. Take care. Cross the Seilhac road (D44) and carry on straight ahead towards Bois Bayard. Take the first path on the left, then keep to the left at all times until you reach the D44. Turn right onto the D44 (take care).

(5) Cross the D940 with care and take the track opposite, slightly to the left. This track starts between two houses; there are no markings. It continues along the edge of a field, remaining barely marked. Continue along the road, which is an extension of the track. At the junction, take the road on the right, cross it and leave it immediately to take the track leading off to the left.

(6) At the hamlet of Les Fourches, take the road on the right. At the junction, continue to the left as far as Lac de Bournazel.

(7) Turn left and follow the lakeshore along a narrow path. Continue along the path to the beach and then head back up towards the road.

(8) Cross the road at the pedestrian crossing opposite the rugby stadium. Then turn left twice to walk alongside the stadium on your left along Boulevard Jean Vinatier. Further on, turn left onto the path that runs alongside Allée des Cerfs.

(9) At the top of the street, turn right onto Chemin du Bois de l’Arche. At the Fork in the road, keep to the right.

(10) Cross the Bréziou and reach the road. Follow it to the left until you reach the junction with Avenue Jean Vinatier.

(11) Turn right onto Rue de l’Église to visit the castle.

(12) At the castle, retrace your steps.

(11) Cross Avenue Jean Vinatier and follow Rue Henry de Bournazel straight ahead, which leads back to the car park where you started (S/E).

A pleasant and easy hike. Perhaps a little monotonous.
