Description of the walk

The walk starts before the entrance to the Grands Goulets tunnel in the village of Les Baraques en Vercors (parking is available nearby).

(S/E) Take the track that climbs towards Les Buissières (signpost). Continue along the path, which first climbs through the forest and then through pastures (passing by a dilapidated-looking farm). At the crossroads, when the path rejoins the forest, take the right-hand fork (still towards Les Buissières).

(1) At Les Buissières (abandoned barn), take the very small path on the right that joins the forest road (watch out for nettles) and continue along this road to Hameau du Bard. Continue along the houses until you reach the small road, which you will need to follow for a few hundred metres (be careful, as there is some traffic).

(2) At the hairpin bend, take the path straight ahead that leads into the forest. Cross this magnificent pine forest towards Bobache (be careful on the last steep descent before the road). Join the road and follow it for a few dozen metres towards Bobache (towards Les Barraques).

(3) Cross the bridge over the Vernaison at the pumping station, then take the path on the right that climbs gently through the fir trees and overlooks the river.

(4) At the first fork, take the path on the right and continue along it until you reach the D518.

(5) At the Chapelle-en-Vercors road (D518), continue to the right (watch out for cars, especially in the bend before you reach the Hôtel des Goulets) and you will reach the starting point (S/E).

Practical information

We did this hike with our 5-year-old daughter, but it was a bit difficult for her: it's best suited to older children (aged 7-8 and above).

Good shoes and a water bottle are all you need for this easy route in dry, sunny weather.

In the nearby area

During the hike, you will pass over the Goulets tunnel without even noticing it. The forests you pass through are magnificent and the views (especially on the long climb at the start) are very beautiful.

Hike completed in part and combined with part of another hike to Pas de l'Allier.
Starting from Saint Martin en Vercors, we joined this hike at point 3 and followed the route in reverse to point 1. A magnificent walk through the autumn-coloured undergrowth, but as the route doesn't really offer any views of the great gorges, we decided to continue uphill to Pas de l'Allier, where the splendid panorama allows for this.

A very pleasant route, which we did in very hot weather, but there are lots of shady spots. The hamlet of Le Bard is very nice.

Hello, I'm glad you enjoyed the walk. Just yesterday, I was right next door on the GTV between Les Baraques and La Chapelle. The area is beautiful.

A beautiful hike that alternates between forest and pastureland. Very peaceful surroundings, beautiful landscapes but no view of the river

at point 2: the descent on the road is not steep.
at point 3, there is no view of the river
This hike is of no interest for the view, which is virtually non-existent.
It is more of a walk through the woods.

Short, easy hike.
Disappointing, as there are very few beautiful views!

Wanting to do a refresher hike that wasn't too snowy, we decided to repeat this hike (basically this one) that we did more than 15 years ago with our young children.
The walk took 2½ hours. It was one-third uphill, one-third downhill and one-third flat. It was on the flat sections that there were the most icy patches. It was a pleasant walk with alternating wooded and open sections, a little tarmac but not annoying, and just one regret that there were no beautiful viewpoints, but the paths were pleasant.
Worth doing again in summer, perhaps in the other direction, we'll see...
Thank you for posting it on Visorando!

An easy walk,
a little disappointed because there is no view of the great gorges, but otherwise it's nice
No problems getting through for us and the hamlet of Le Bard is very pretty

A wonderful discovery, a place I didn't know about. We visited as a family with our two daughters, aged 9 and 13. There are some lovely views and the forest after the hamlet of Le Bard is magnificent.

hello Catherine, it's strange that this gentleman didn't allow you to pass. Were you on a GR trail or a country path?
i've never had anyone refuse to let me pass. Do you happen to know how the Visorando software works, please? I need some information that I can't find on the site. Thank you, Michel from Valence

We were delighted at first. But after taking the pine tree path... we found ourselves in a clearing... we followed a red trail... Unfortunately, when we reached the hills and passed a farm, we had to turn back... The farmer didn't want us to walk past his property... His dogs were running loose... and ours were on their leashes... We had to retrace our steps... a 9 km walk...
Disappointed

A beautiful walk alternating between shaded and open sections, without any great difficulty.
Perfect for warming up.
The signposting is sometimes a little lacking, but the route is fairly obvious thanks to the map.

The scenery is magnificent and the forest is magical.
