Arâches-la-Frasse walks

A short circular walk from the top station of the Telecabin du Grande Massif Express. A short variant is also described to take in the two lakes. Magnificent views from the Tête du Pré des Saix.

Apart from the first hill at the start this is a mainly flat and low level walk from Samoens to Sixt Fer a Cheval and back taking in the Gorges des Tines. It is a pleasant walk with a lot to see and do.

A loop in a little-known area at one end of the Aravis. Pretty views of Mont Blanc and the Fayet valley. Totally doable in a day, but you can use the refuges to split the route.

A circular walk to the Gramusset Refuge through great limestone scenery.

A circular route encompassing a stunning ridge hike with views down to the glacial valley of Samoens and Sixt Fer a Cheval whilst overlooked by Mont Blanc.

A short uphill walk from the Col de la Colombiere to the lake and back. Nice scenery but can be popular.

A lovely walk through great scenery which changes at different points of the walks. Good views and very quiet. Note this is not marked with the usual yellow signposts so you will need to refer to your IGN map. There are some hand-painted signs and arrows to help guide you. This walk also passes through the upland pasture with grazing sheep and the livestock is protected by dogs. Make sure you have read the information and know-how to pass flocks in a safe manner. A superb walk facing the long barrier of the Rochers des Fiz (or Chaîne des Fiz – Massif de Platé, Haut Giffre), in an exceptional setting with a section of the route running alongside the Souay torrent. When the sun is shining, the reflections of Lake Pormenaz are truly beautiful.

Starting from the Sommand ski resort, this loop takes you to three peaks in the area: Haute Pointe, Pointe de Chavasse and Pointe de Chalune. The route mainly runs through alpine pastures, offering beautiful views along the way. Caution! Some sections require caution: the route is off-trail and involves steep slopes where you must take care not to slip (see the practical information section).

Second stage of the Tour des Aiguilles Rouges. This second stage follows the itinerary of the Mont Blanc GRP®. Hike through the Passy Reserve to the Col de Salenton. It's optional to climb the Mont Blanc des Dames: le Buet. Descent through the Vallon de Bérard nature reserve to the mountain hut.

A circular walk, at first uphill through woodland where the shade can be a relief, then over open mountain pastures to Le Planet before returning downhill to the start.

First stage of the Aiguilles Rouges tour. This stage begins with a forest climb with views of Mont Blanc and the Bossons glacier. Continuing with a panoramic hike over the Passy reserve, we pass Lac de Pormenaz and arrive at Refuge de Moëde Anterne which overlooks the Mont Blanc mountain range.

A circular walk starting and finishing at the ski resort of Chinaillon; between Le Grand-Bornand and the Col de la Colombiere. A varied and interesting walk with great scenery, wildlife and options to take in Roc des Tours.

A steep walk to a natural rock arch, the Trou de la Mouche (Fly Hole). The section up to the Trou is steep and loose in places, the initial descent is also steep but soon eases off. This route, although shown on IGN maps, is not marked with paint flashes. Signposts at the start of the route make this clear so make sure you have a map and compass. The walk is best done in the direction described, and best done a clear, dry day.

A great walk for the family. You can choose between going to the lake and back or going right up to the top. The latter is easier than it looks and is actually less steep than the ascent to the lake.You will be rewarded with magnificent views.
