Leave the D77 coming from Névez towards Port-Manech. Turn left onto a road that is one-way only for motorhomes and continue to the car park.
(S/E) With your back to the car park, head right towards the path leading to Château de Poulguin and follow the surrounding wall to reach Anse de Poulguin.
Markings:GR®®34white and red +PR®® yellow (mainly signposts).
Turn left and follow the edge of the ria under the trees. When you reach the access road to an oyster farm, go around it on the left.
(1) Continue along the path that runs alongside the cove. Each time a stream joins the ria, there is a footbridge to cross it.
(2) Pass a signpost marked Kérochet and continue to the first intersection where a sign indicates Kerdruc 1.3km, Pont-Aven 8.7km.
YellowPR®® markings (on signposts).
(3) Leave theGR®® and climb left up a sunken path through the woods. At the end, turn right towards the hamlet of Mesmeur (another possible starting point). At the sign for Port Manec'h 4.9km, take a hairpin turn to the left and continue straight on the road marked as a dead end. You will come to a bend with a large rock on the left.
(5) Leave the road continuing towards the hamlet of Kérochet and take the path that climbs steadily through a wooded area. At the end of the woods, with a tennis court on your left, look for a simple calvary on the left, located on the access road to a property. Pass a house where you will notice an old well and a bread oven. Go around the hamlet on the right and arrive at the stop sign on the Kervren road.
(5) Turn right for about 50 metres, then turn left and follow the small tree-lined road that goes around the greenhouses. Pass the entrance to Cleuziou on your left and continue straight ahead. Cross a road and you will arrive at the D77, Route de Port Manec'h.
(6) Cross carefully (no pedestrian crossing), follow this road on the left, using the wider verge on the right-hand side. Continue for about 100 metres and take the first path on the right. Continue straight ahead, cross a road and continue towards Kerambis, a road marked as a dead end.
(7) Go around this beautiful stone building on the left and note its pretty bread oven. First view of the sea.
No signposts
Continue straight ahead, descending between the field fences, until you reach a small road near a house facing the sea with a reconstructed well in the garden. Turn right onto a small path, still between fields. It turns right at a right angle and becomes lined with trees. You will arrive at a crossroads.
(8) Turn left onto this wide wooded path which descends into the valley and, almost at the bottom, note a small pond on the right. Continue to follow the same path in a south-westerly direction. Before the last house, turn left into a landscaped area with several picnic tables. Then descend onto the coastal path at a signpost.
Markings:GR®®34white and red +PR®® yellow (mainly signposts).
(9) Follow the signs for Port Manec'h 2km. This is where the most difficult part of the route begins, alternating between a series of ascents and descents, sometimes via stone steps or steps carved into the rock.
Pass the "An Goërled" rocks, where cormorants often gather, then "Roche Madame", where a sign provides information about André Jolly, a painter from Pont-Aven and Névez. Continue towards the upright rock called "Le Doigt de Dieu" (God's Finger).
You will arrive near the red and white lighthouse that marks the entrance to the port of Port Manec'h. This is where two coastal rivers meet: the karstic cave on the left and the Bélon on the right. Pass under the lighthouse.
(10) Take the stairs down to the harbour esplanade and cross it. Go up to the right along Rue de l'Aven.
(11) At the bend, take the André Jolly path on the right, which overlooks the beach. Note the imposing Manoir de Dalmore. Turn left to reach the 16th-century Saint-Nicolas Chapel.
Opposite the chapel, turn right onto a path running alongside Manoir Dalmore (it feels like you are entering private property). At the gate, turn left into Venelle de Pouldon, then right to reach the Pouldon corniche.
(12) Turn left and follow this road, which is marked as a no-entry road a little further on. Continue straight ahead (the purple line on the map is incorrect) and you will come to the Pouldon slipway (Poul Don on the map). Beautiful view of the karstic cave. Follow the coastal path that branches off to the left to go around this cove and arrive at a large property bordered by a very rustic fence. Go around this property, return to the riverbank a little further on and continue along the coastal path.
Make a round trip to the cove, where you can enjoy a view of Poulguin Castle and its dovecote. Retrace your steps, pass a small cross planted on a rock and reach the access road to the castle.
Turn left to return to the car park (S/E).
