The ‘Ammerbucher Gigeleswegle’ premium walking trail lives up to what its Swabian name promises throughout its entire length: from many spots, you can enjoy excellent views of the countryside.

The word ‘Gigele’ comes from the Swabian dialect and roughly means ‘to look’ or ‘to keep an eye out’. And the trail certainly offers some fantastic views. At times, the view opens up to intimate glimpses of picturesque vineyards, idyllic villages or quiet little valleys; at others, it stretches far and wide across the Gäu region and as far as the Swabian Alb.

Description of the walk

The trail first leads through the idyllic Käsbach Valley with views of Breitenholz and then up into the extensive orchard meadows of the Schönbuch hillside. A colourful ‘sea of blossoms’ in spring, lush greenery in summer, delicious fruit in autumn and gnarled trees in winter. Orchard meadows have something to offer in every season and are also valuable habitats for thousands of animal and plant species. For this reason, the hillside was designated a nature reserve in 2000.

Time and again, the view opens up to the vineyards around Breitenholz, which are tended by hand by the local winegrowers. The path is mostly flat all the way to Entringen and back again.
