In Senonches, I go to Les Evés!

The name "Les Evés" refers, locally, to places where water is abundant. This water, which is everywhere, is particularly present in this "district" of the forest, south of the village. It is carried by gutters and streams from the forest to the ponds and wash houses. This short route takes you on a tour of places where water has been collected over the years, not far from the town, to be regulated and used for the activities of the Senonchois.
After inspiring dreams of a spa resort in 1936-37, the water has nevertheless contributed to the town's development as a tourist destination. Successive municipal councils have worked to develop what was once a marshy area, which has now become a tourist complex with sports and leisure facilities, ideally located near the new La Loge des Bois secondary school.

Description of the walk

Departure from Rond de Battenberg in Senonches - Parking available along Avenue des Évés.

Yellow markings

(S/E) With your back to the car park, follow the bank of the Étang Albert Rémy pond to the left. Pass in front of the Évés wash house and continue between the edge of the pond and the stream that flows out of the wash house. Cross the sluice gate and watch the streams come together as they pass under the houses on Rue de Launay. Continue until you reach the hedge of the Boulodrome.

(1) At the Boulodrome hedge, turn left along the stream. Follow it to the Rue des Sormes wash house. Turn left into this street. Walk up to Rue de Pontgouin. Follow it to the right until you reach the crossroads near the Centre équestre de la Hutte. Turn right and walk down the path. Pass by the Hutte spring. Go up to the Étang de Badouleau dyke at the entrance to the holiday village.

(2) The route continues opposite, passing between the fences. You will arrive at a large forest crossroads. Cross the metal footbridge called "Le pont noir" (the black bridge). Cross the stream that feeds the pond. The route now follows its valley. Turn right immediately and climb the path, which becomes a track, leading to Rond de l'Aitre (actually Delaître Préfet d'Eure-et-Loir under NapoleonI).

(3) Carefully cross the D941 to take the stone-paved path opposite. Walk about 50 metres and turn left onto a winding path. Continue to the corner of plot no. 194, which is undergoing regeneration.

(4) Turn right onto the perpendicular path. Continue straight ahead. Reach the stream that feeds the Étang de Badouleau and cross it via a footbridge with a railing. Continue for another 300 metres or so. As you approach the D25, turn right onto a path that leads to the Rond de la Hache.

(5) Cross the forest path and follow the path running alongside the road, almost opposite. It reaches a ditch; follow it to the right, then cross it via the planks. Continue between the D25 and the Sentier sensoriel de l'Orée du Bois (sensory trail), which is a few metres away. Continue to the edge of the forest, near the houses.

(6) Turn right and you will arrive at the Sentier de Découverte trail (we recommend walking around it – there are information panels). Leave the trail near the picnic tables, cross the car park and you will arrive at Rue du Général De Gaulle.

(7) Cross the street at the pedestrian crossing and follow it to the left until you reach the Rond-point de la Pyramide, where there is a column with a small statue of Napoleon.

(8) Do not cross the roundabout, but turn right and follow the beginning of Avenue de Badouleau. Cross it carefully and follow the path that slips between the houses on the left, cuts across Rue de la Fontaine du Chemin, and leads to Square du Petit Bossard. This very damp place was, not so long ago, nothing more than a swamp. It is the convergence point for streams coming from the western part of the forest and the source of several springs. All this water flows underground through Avenue Poucin and Avenue des Evés, emptying into Lac Arthur Rémy, which was created in the 1960s.
Cross the square via the central path and head towards Rond de Battenberg (S/E).
