In search of cherries from Grenay

This short hike will allow you to discover the village of Grenay in a different light, with its green setting in this vast mining town and its miners' houses. It is one of the 353 sites in the mining basin listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Description of the walk

Departure from Place Daniel Breton

(S/E) Leave the square with the school on your left, then turn right towards the town hall. At the end, turn left and right, then take Rue Léon Degreaux until you reach the railway line.

(1) Without crossing it, take the path on the right, then the first path on the left and continue straight ahead until you reach Rue Voltaire.

(2) Cross the street and continue straight ahead until you reach Rue Émile Zola.

(3) Turn right and left, then continue straight ahead until you reach a Y-junction.

(4) Keep left, then take the second right. At the end, turn right until you reach a crossroads with a path.

(5) Follow the path on the left. At the Y-junction, keep left and, at the end, turn left until you reach the next crossroads.

(6) Turn left and continue straight ahead until you reach a bend.

(7) Keep right and, at the Y-junction, turn right again to return to the junction you came from.

(6) Go straight ahead, keep left at the Y-junction and, at the end, turn right to rejoin the D165E1.

(8) Turn right and left and continue straight ahead until you approach the road at a clear area.

(9) Take a path on the left and stay on the trail on the right. At the end, turn left and continue straight ahead until you reach the second fork.

(10) Turn right, then take the second left, and at the end, turn right and left near an antenna.

(11) Go straight ahead, then turn right and left to reach the car park (S/E).
