Description of the walk

Parking along the road near Fauvillers church.

(S/E) With the church on your left, head straight on along Rue de Lore. Follow this road, which turns into a farm track, down to the river ‘La Basseille’. Cross over the river via the metal beam on your left. Continue along the wide path opposite. Head uphill, with the forest on your left and the meadow on your right. At the first junction, ignore the paths. Continue to the second junction.

(1) At the hamlet known as “Stän”, turn right. At the fork, go straight on until the next one.

(2) Continue to the right. Ignore the paths and follow the main forest track to the gate.

(3) Go round the gate if it is not open. Join another forest track and continue straight on until you reach the A-road.

(4) Cross carefully to rejoin the forest track opposite. After 150m, take the path on your left. Follow it until you reach a wider track. Continue until you reach a fork in the road.

Red Rectangle Markings

(5) Take the small path on the left. At the fork on the right, follow the markings. The path is not very clearly marked on the ground, but the markings on the trees will lead you to the site of La Misbour church.

(6) Follow the markings back down to the main path and turn right. Cross the stream and follow the path back up to the road. Turn right and then take the first left.

Walk down the wide track to the stream, which you cross.

(7) Turn right immediately afterwards. Follow the forest track uphill until you reach another track.

(8) Continue to the right until you reach the road, which you cross. Carry on straight ahead until the road surface changes. There is a sort of open area there.

(9) Take the path slightly to the right leading into the forest and leave the road behind. Follow the path downhill. Continue straight on at the junction. Keep going downhill.

(10) Cross a clearing, go over the stream, and follow it for a few steps. It quickly moves away to your left; continue straight ahead. Join a wide path and carry on straight ahead.

(11) At the forest track, turn left and head downhill. Ignore the path coming in from your right and carry on. Pass a building and two streams in quick succession.

(12) Take the path on the left, which becomes a road, and head back up towards the village.

(13) At the junction, keep to the right.

(14) On the main road, keep to the right and then take the first right. Take the second left and return to the church (S/E).

Worth a visit

La Misbour Church: with aisles marked by large pillars and a three-nave layout, the structure does not appear to date back further than the 11th century. Although no historical evidence can confirm this assertion, popular tradition holds that this is the original church shared by the surrounding villages (Martelange, Fauvillers, Anlier)

Strongly not recommended after heavy rain, as there are huge ruts filled with water stretching for several kilometres.
Hike completed on 4 August!

A lovely walk!
Not at all monotonous, with just a few sections on quiet roads, but only for short distances.
Don’t forget to turn left to see the church ruins (by the ponds).
One to do again ;-)

A rather uninteresting, monotonous route with a lot of long, straight stretches

A really lovely walk, especially with the snow this weekend. We only came across five people in the forest. The only slight downside, in my view, is that there aren’t any viewpoints offering a view of this magnificent region.

Hello,

My wife and I did this route on Friday 18 December 2020 and we
enjoyed it very much. I was familiar with the Anlier Forest as I often cycle through it on my road bike
, but this was my first time on foot. We’ll certainly be doing it again when
nature isn’t in hibernation, as it is at the moment.
