Parking along Rue Sainte-Marguerite near the church in Fauvillers.
(S/E) With the church on your left, head straight on. At the crossroads, go straight on into Rue de la Lore. A road joins from your right; carry on. The road turns into a stony track, with a view of the forest you are about to walk through. Head down to the river ‘la Basseille’. Cross the river via the metal beam on your left if the ford is too deep. Continue along the wide path opposite. Head uphill, with the forest on your left and the meadow on your right. At the first junction, ignore the path on your right. Continue to the second junction.
Yellow Rectangle Markings
(1) At the place known as “Stän”, go straight on. Stay on the main forest track, leave the forest and enjoy an unobstructed view of the hills. Walk straight on through the meadows and then a pine forest. The track becomes a road; head down towards Wisembach.
No Markings
(2) At the crossroads, turn right into Rue des Églantiers. Walk along the meadows and stay on the main path until the fork.
(3) At the fork, turn left uphill. Follow this path to the crossroads.
(4) At the crossroads, turn right. At the next junction, go straight on along the little-used path, ignoring the path on your left and the one turning right. You will come out onto a wider path; continue to the left.
(5) At the fork, continue to the right.
(6) At the next junction, turn left, then at the next fork turn right.
(7) At an open area, take the least-used path heading left towards the west; do not go right onto the firebreaks. The track descends to the road. Take it to the right and go downhill. Cross the bridge over the Basseille and turn left at the first forest track.
(8) At the junction with the stream, turn left. At the end of the track, walk alongside a pond and turn left at the junction. Walk past the entrance to a chalet, turn right and take the forest track leading uphill.
(9) At the bend, do not enter the forest but head right and continue along the plot. 150m further on, the path turns left. Continue climbing, keeping to your left for 200m.
(10) At the fork in the path, by a copse of young fir trees in the middle of the clearing, turn right towards the north-west. Continue straight on, passing the fallen trees. The path turns right, then left, and descends.
The trail becomes a bit overgrown at the end of the descent as wild boars have passed through here.
To find the marked forest track (11), please follow the instructions below carefully. The paths and tracks taken are not marked on the map
Look out for two dead but still standing trees on your right; they are very distinctive as they have no bark left and are very white. Head towards them, northwards, and you will come to a path in front of them. Turn left to go round the trees and rejoin the main path.
Red Rectangle Markings
(11) On this marked path, turn right. Further on, ignore a path on your left and continue straight ahead. Ford the stream.
(12) Turn left and follow the main path uphill. Leave the forest; the path becomes a road, with unobstructed views of the meadows. At the junction with another road, near the houses, turn left.
(13) At the N848, turn right and then right again. Take the second left and return to the church (S/E).
