To the west of Vieux-Marché

The Trégor region boasts a rich religious heritage. This walk allows you to discover several examples, which, whilst not exceptional, are classic in their beauty and aesthetic appeal.
This walk also allows you to enjoy the lush countryside and the Breton bocage.

Moments of tranquillity and exertion are always welcome in this mild climate.

Description of the walk

Start: car park in front of the village church.

(S/E) Head due east, leaving the church on your right. Continue straight on along Hent Gwazh ar Stank. Follow this same street as it bends to the left and keep to the left to pass under the railway bridge.

(1) After the railway bridge, take the first street on the right. Follow the railway line, then turn left towards the hamlet of "Biladec", which you cross, and continue on to Kervoalen. Cross the hamlet on the left.

GR34 B: red and white markings
(2) Take theGR®34Bby turning right and follow it alongside the Saint-Éturien stream.

GR34A: White and red markings
(3) TheGR®34Bjoins theGR®34Ahere. Continue on theGR®34Aby turning right.

(4) At Kerandouff, continue on theGR® by turning right. At the fork, keep right.

(5) At the junction, turn left towards Kervoaziou and take the path on the right. Continue straight on to the “Pont Neuf” bridge, which crosses the Léguer.

(6) Turn left immediately after the house; ignore the “No Entry” sign as this is indeed theGR® route and the only crossing available for several kilometres.

(7) After the bridge, take the first road on the left (D32) (theGR® turns right) and continue along this road. Pass the hamlet of "Le Breignou", go under the power line and continue straight on at the fork.

(8) Turn right onto the D33. A short detour to the left allows you to see the Chapel of Christ (see photo), then return to the D33 and follow it to the left.

(9) Continue along the D33, avoiding the road on the left. Pass under the railway bridge and cross the stream Le Frout. After the stream, take the road on the right towards Trégrom. Pass in front of the school and continue to the church.

(10) After the church, turn into the street furthest to the right; Hent ar Pont Kozh. Take the second street on the right, Hent ar Feunteun Gozh, then the second on the right again, Hent ar Zant, which leads to the hamlet known as Le Saint.

GR34A: red and white markings
(11) At the end of the road, take the path on the left (you’ll rejoin theGR®34A). It leads onto the road heading towards the Coat Leven Mill. Take this road on the left. At the junction, turn right, then right again at the hamlet of Kernotériou, following theGR®34A.

(12) Cross the bridge over the Léguer and turn left immediately afterwards. At the road, turn left towards Le Crannou and continue straight on along theGR®34Ato the hamlet of Keraudren.

(13) At Kéraudren, leave theGR®34Aon your left and continue straight on. At the next crossroads, turn right. Continue along this road which leads to Vieux-Marché. Pass the Post Office on your left to return to the church square (S/E)

Very interesting route along the St Ethurien with beautiful windmills.
Very shaded in hot weather.
I recommend it.

There’s no problem crossing the bridge at Pont Neuf (the new footbridge). However, once you’ve crossed, make sure you take the path on the right. The GPS route shows a path that doesn’t actually exist opposite the current footbridge.
Please note: the section on the main road after Tregrom is a bit long and dangerous. You can take a shortcut via the GR before Tregrom.

A lovely walk, but… There’s a surprise at the Pont Neuf halfway along the route.
In fact, crossing it has been prohibited by a local by-law since 2019. It’s surprising that walkers who’ve done this route recently haven’t mentioned it.
This has made the route considerably longer.

Start from the church, then go under the railway bridge, but there is a way to avoid the road that runs alongside the railway line
by not turning right after the bridge but continuing along the road for about a hundred metres to take the small footpath on the left which descends towards the River St Ethurien; from there, simply follow the path which leads us to Kerandouff (I find it nicer to follow this river rather than the railway line; moreover, further on before Kervoalen, the path is blocked by a tree stump, forcing you to leave the path to continue, then pass through an area overgrown with brambles
Otherwise, just after the railway bridge, just before Trégrom, instead of taking the road, you can take the path down which runs alongside the River Frout and thus reach a spot that the locals call ‘the beach’ (as it’s very popular in summer). You can also see the bridge that served as a backdrop for René Clément’s film *La Bataille du Rail*. Afterwards, you can indeed head back up to the village of Trégrom
Apart from these details, it’s a pleasant walk, though still quite a workout

The route takes us on a tour of the area around the village of Vieux Marché, taking a long detour via Les 7 Saints.
The first 3 km are on the road, but as the countryside is so beautiful, you don’t really notice it. It’s when we leave Les 7 Saints that the sunken paths begin to follow one after another and the walk becomes magnificent. For over 7 km, there are no more roads except where we cut across them (in fact, I chose to finish the route by continuing along the GR rather than heading back up the road, and it was the right choice!). The sunken paths and the riverbanks are well worth the detour.

Thank you for allowing me to discover paths and landscapes I didn’t even know existed (in my home town).
