Description of the walk

Access: from Quimper, take the D20 known as the “Route des Châteaux” and follow it towards Plomelin. Just after the Kroaz an Trébé junction, turn left (signposted Moulin de Rossulien, Odet).
The large car park is signposted on the left.

PR®® marked in yellow

(S/E) At the far end of the car park, continue across the grassy area with picnic tables and emerge onto the road, which is closed to the public (signpost). Pass the entrance to Kerambleïz Castle (private) on your left and note an old wash house on your left. You’ll reach a fork near a footbridge over the stream that feeds the mill. Continue straight on towards the slipway, passing the Moulin de Rossulien on your right.

(1) At the signpost marked ‘Escalier du Marquis’, take the small staircase and continue along the path that runs alongside the river. Carry on, following the wire fence on the left which marks the boundary of the Château de Kerambleïz estate. You will reach a small cove which you go round by crossing a stream: on the left, there is a lovely view of the château and on the right an old wash house. Continue to the right, climbing the Escalier du Marquis, a staircase made of wooden logs, until you reach a road, which you follow to the left.

No signposting
(2) At the GAEC in the hamlet of Kervévenn, continue along the road which veers left, leaving the access to Kerrien on your right.

No signposting

(3) Head down to the right, leaving the road for a narrow path that runs alongside a stream and a marshy area. Follow this path as it winds through the bushes until you reach a pond. Turn right along a meadow, with the various buildings of the Kerbernez Horticultural College on your left, and emerge opposite the golf course. Walk along the right-hand side of the course until you reach a track (this section is visible on the OSM map).

(4) Turn right, following the signs for “Vers l’Odet” and taking care to avoid the areas reserved for golfers. Head downhill to the right along a meadow (sheep pasture on your left); at the bottom, at the sign, keep left and, near a small pond, turn right, ignoring the sign for “Vers l’Odet”. Enter a lovely tree-lined path that runs alongside the golf course, which remains on your right. At the end, at the gate, turn left along the banks of the Odet and head towards the Îlot des Trois Tourtes for a return trip via a footbridge (there is an old house just before it). Continue through the woods and go down a few log steps to reach the pond’s embankment.

(5) Cross the dyke, then turn left to walk as close as possible to the Étang de Kerbernez, ignoring two paths on the right, and continue to the end (a marshy area where mallards take shelter).

(6) Turn right into a meadow, going round a water intake marker surrounded by a hedge on the left, following the track which leads to a small car park at the end of a cul-de-sac. Walk up the entire street, noting on the right a beautiful stone farmhouse with a bread oven, and arrive at a Fork in the road with a path opposite.

(7) Turn right towards the residential area of Porrajenn, pass a small car park and continue along a wide footpath. Just before the end of the cul-de-sac, look out for a path on the left that descends alongside a property towards Anse de Kerdour.

(8) At the bottom, turn left and follow the path running alongside this cove, keeping it on your right. Turn left between the properties and join a road. Ignore the road on the right, which is marked ‘no entry’ except for residents, and continue straight on until you reach the D20.
(9) Cross this road with care and take the path opposite, running alongside a wooded area. Follow this path alongside a stream and a marshy area. A few rare signposts from an old route called “Entre deux moulins” mark the route. Walk alongside a wetland area then turn left heading south-west. You will come across several tracks that converge in a north-westerly direction. Continue to the hamlet of Kerguel Vihan (private property sign) where you turn left towards Kerguel Vraz. Continue along the small road and arrive at a larger hamlet, Picheri.

(10) Just before this, turn left onto the small road, Hent Kervouyenn, which leads to the hamlet of the same name.

PR®® marked in yellow

Continue along the path opposite, which ends in a small road near a house, and reach a larger road.

(11) Turn left, pass the large pig farm (small cross on a patch of grass) and continue to the D20. At the T-junction at Kroaz an Trébé, turn right, cross this busy road with care to head towards Rossulien and reach the car park on the left (S/E).

Notes

Alternative route: Between 1 April and 30 September: a path is open along the Odet from point (5) (gate) alongside a wire fence. The rest of the year, it is closed to protect wintering birds. After the next gate (view of Kerdour Castle on the other side of the cove), turn left and rejoin the trail at point (8).

Worth a visit

Kerambleiz Castle.
Kerbernez Golf Course.

Legend of the Rocher des Trois Tourtes: "The wife of a gamekeeper was carrying three pies home in a boat when Saint Cadou asked her for alms. The miserly woman refused. Saint Cadou found himself on dry land, the boat sank, the woman drowned and the three pies were turned to stone. Two of these stones can still be seen at the tip of the headland and, on certain nights, you can hear the poor woman’s soul wailing!”

There are many mallards on the pond and a lovely wooded path along the banks of the Odet.

Thank you to Mr LE FLOCH for showing us these paths that inspire dreams...
We combined this hike with the one called "Around Plomelin" on the advice of a previous walker, thus prolonging the beauty of the landscapes and the serene atmosphere that reigns over these trails.
There was some confusion around the Etang de Kerbernez, but the proximity of the Odet river was a valuable guide.
As the path between points 9 and 10 is not marked, we hesitated at two intersections but kept to the left. The walk through the woods is long but beautiful, with some sections completely covered in greenery. The arrival at the Chapelle Philibert is a pleasant end to this hike.

The first part of the route is absolutely lovely until you leave the Odet; after that, it becomes more rural (the path was well-maintained when I walked it), so it’s less interesting but overall very good. It’s worth making a detour to Plomelin, if only to visit the chapel by the little spring nearby, or even to see the three dolmens and the church in the centre.

Between points 8 and 9, at around kilometre 6.200, on the right-hand side of the road, a field and three large, untethered dogs—the area has no fencing—suddenly appear, chase you and force you to turn back. Upon enquiry, we learnt that this is a common occurrence in this area. The hike continued via Alez Penker and Hent Polhoa d

A lovely, peaceful route along the Odet and through sunken lanes. Very little tarmac.
A lovely discovery, thank you Mr Floch!
