Tehidy Woodland trail, and the twisted trunk Beech tree

Tehidy Woods is a former woodland that surrounds a large country house, now a Country Park, with many woodland trails. Throughout the woods, there are a variety of trees, including a Beech Tree with a twisted trunk, one of the 70 different trees in the country, forming the'Queens Green Canopy', commemorating the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Description of the walk

(S/E) From the east lodge parking area, follow the route in a westerly direction. It will follow the fairway of the nearby golf course. Continue up through the woodland and up to where the main route turns left and down.

(1) Turn right, and in a northerly direction, the route through the trees is not so defined as the main route you just left, but a permitted route. The woodland route will cross another well-defined route.

(2) Continue in a south-westerly direction, through the trees, to another defined route. Turn right, heading west to the edge of the woods. The route will meet up with a made-up access road.

(3) Turn left and south, following the made-up road, across a cattle grid, back into the woodlands. Passing dwellings on the left, former game and park keepers' dwellings, the buildings on the right were kennels for the hunt dogs.

(4) As the track splits, turn right and south.

Note: Dogs are not permitted down and around the lake. If you have dogs, instead of turning right and south, continue in an easterly direction, along the well-defined track, which will lead to the twisted tree (7) and rejoin the route.

Otherwise, follow the route down and over the bridge, turn left and east. Handrail the stream up to the lake, passing the water cascade (5) on the way.
The Squirrels are very friendly and have been known to feed from the hand, and enjoy the wildlife.
Follow the route around the lake, past the Park cafe, heading north.

(6) Turn left to the twisted tree.

(7) Returning to (6) and continuing along the route to (8) and then right to follow the route back alongside the fairway to the start.(S/E)
