Description of the route

Start from Place de la Gare in Dieulefit.

Mountain bike route no. 9.

(S/E) From the square, follow the D538 towards Nyons: watch out for cars!

(1) Turn left at Les Granges. Follow the signs for the Beauvallon school along an uphill road.

(2) Take a stony track on the right – which is sometimes steep and technical for 800m – as far as Les Marroux.

(3) Take a lovely track through the truffle groves and lavender fields to reach Fabras.

(4) Continue along the track uphill to Paulhiet. Viewpoint over the mountains.

(5) Cross the hamlet and the chestnut grove, head downhill and turn right onto a small road for 200m.

(6) Turn right onto a path that descends, with a few steep sections, to Relautier

(7) Walk down the stony path, which is steep towards the end. Take a track leading up to l’Avalanche.

(8) Carry straight on, down a small road to the main road: watch out for cars!

(1) Return to Dieulefit, Place de la Gare (S/E).

It’s a shame that the description often refers to place names – such as ‘les granges’, ‘les Marroux’ and ‘l’Avalanche’ – which aren’t marked on the map. Only the signposts and directional arrows make it possible to follow the route map without too much difficulty.

We did this hike on foot
A lovely walk – easy and with wonderful scenery. Just one slight downside: the bit along the road to get to point 1!

A very lovely walk, though it certainly provides a good endurance workout (it was supposed to take 1h30, but we walked for 2h30 at our own pace – although it seems it was originally designed for mountain bikers) as well as the final section, which involves a steep climb.
Crossing Dieulefit along the road with all the traffic isn’t particularly appealing and, on top of that, it’s dangerous! I’d recommend leaving the car at point 2 straight away.
The stop at a bistro on the way back was very pleasant, though 😃

Hello!

Thank you for your feedback. You’re right, 1h30 on foot is rather ambitious… but this is a circular mountain bike course, so the time is calculated based on that discipline

The only slight mistake: the estimated time. It’s impossible to walk more than 10km in 1h30… Allow 2h30 instead.
