Vineyards and hillsides around Saint-Lambert-du-Lattay

A very pleasant walk, mostly along paths, with just a very short section on the D125 and the bridge over the A87 motorway.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park located just before the Pont Barré, a historic site from the War in the Vendée.

(S/E) From the car park, head towards the D160 and turn left to head for the Pont Barré.

(1) The outward and return journeys both involve crossing the bridge spanning the Hyrôme and the Layon. After the bridge, at the junction, turn left towards Paimparé. Cross the Hyrôme via the road bridge.

(2) Turn left onto the opposite bank and pass under the A87. Continue to the right. Pass La Midonnière on your left.

(3) Turn right onto the D204. After 300 m, turn right onto the road towards La Vérollière.

(4) Turn right onto the D125. Go over the A87. Continue for approximately 250 m.

(5) Turn left onto a wide dirt track that runs through vineyards. Pass through La Jutière and turn right, heading west.

(6) At the end of a very shady track, carry on straight on towards L’Hyrôme.

(7) Cross the river via a small wooden bridge, then turn left immediately. You can stop for a while in this very shady, rural spot. At Bretonneau, turn right onto the road. At the crossroads, head right towards the campsite.

(8) After the campsite, head left up towards the village of Saint-Lambert-du-Lattay and cross over heading north.
There are a large number of winegrowers offering tastings and selling local produce. Cross the D 160 and carry on straight ahead. Continue along Rue des Tonneliers, then Rue Saint-Vincent, and turn right.

(9) Turn left onto Rue des Chesnaies. At the left-hand bend, carry on straight ahead along the wide Chemin des Chesnaies through the vineyards. At the next fork, turn right (north-east) and continue straight ahead along this wide track. Leave the road on your right and carry on along this track, which bends to the right, until you reach the D 160.

(10) Cross the RN 160 with care and turn left onto the path leading down towards the Pont Barré

(1) Shortly afterwards, you’ll reach the car park (S/E).

A pleasant walk through vineyards and along sunken paths.
Some sections are very exposed for several kilometres. Take care during the peak season.
Didn’t encounter any particular difficulties.
No signposting; I used the app for the whole route.
Essential.

Lots of road but hardly any cars. A bit noisy near the motorway, but not too bothersome given the view!
As for the paths crossing the Hyrôme, watch out for flooding, but we had no problems at all. The woodland and vineyards are lovely to walk through, and the urban section is quite short.

Make sure you wear sturdy shoes for the dirt sections and when crossing streams, but there’s no problem with tall grass.
