The car park is at Parc de l’Ecanet, which you reach by walking past the sports ground.

(S/E) Head north to enter the park, passing through a wooden gate.
Take the second path branching off to the left and keep to the left to head back south.
The path runs alongside a meadow on the right and the sports fields on the left.

When you reach the D67, cross at the pedestrian crossing and turn right onto the pavement on the opposite side.
Take the first street on the left, running alongside the tennis courts.
Continue along this track until you reach a T-junction.

(2) Turn right onto a tree-lined path until you reach the D67.

(3) Cross the main road with care and continue northwards to the junction.
Turn right onto the road that climbs to see the Black Madonna.

A lovely little shaded walk – really pleasant. The route is well signposted, and there were no stinging nettles at the end of August!

A lovely little walk in the sunshine
It’s true that the climb up to the Black Madonna is quite steep, so it’s best not to go when it’s very hot 🥵
but we’d definitely recommend it.

An easy route to follow as it is signposted in yellow and marked ‘Balade de la Vierge Noire’. The climb up to the Vierge Noire is very steep! The only downside to this route is the narrow path, which is overgrown with stinging nettles before you reach point no. 5. It’s best to avoid wearing shorts and a T-shirt to avoid getting stung!
Otherwise, it’s a lovely walk through the countryside just outside Villers-Bocage.
