Description of the walk

No signposts

(S) At Vielsalm station, go to platform 2. Take the path opposite the stairs. At the road, turn right and go uphill. Ignore the road on your right and continue until you reach the junction with Rue du Bonalfa on your left.

GRP® 571 Yellow and Red Markings

(1) Turn left into the dead-end road. Follow the main road for about 600 m, ignoring the dirt track on the right after La Poudrière, a former military site with a triangular façade. Walk to the fork.

(2) Turn left and continue to a crossroads.

(3) Continue straight ahead and go uphill. Ignore the grassy path on the left and continue. At the top, continue to the left and at the next crossroads, go straight ahead onto the path. Leave the woods and go downhill. In the bend, ignore the faint path on your right and continue to the left until you reach the gravel path.

(4) Continue left. Pass the castle of the Counts of Salm. After the bend and the houses on either side of the road, look for a path on your left.

(5) Go down the path on the left. At the road, turn left and then take the hairpin bend to the right. Continue left on Rue du Rivage. Pass Pont Madeleine and La Salm. Walk alongside the church and cross the N89 with caution. Turn right, then left onto Rue du Coticule towards the museum and walk to No. 11.

(6) Take the concrete path on the left without going as far as the footbridge. Go through the tunnel under the railway line and over the Ruisseau de Bêche stream. On the other side of the railway line, go up the road on the left until you reach a larger road.

(7) Take a sharp right turn and then a little further on, take a sharp left turn onto the forest path before a house. Walk up the Way of the Cross with 14 stations to discover until you reach the chapel.

(8) Pass in front of the chapel, which dates from 1916. Back on the path, continue straight ahead and leave the forest. At the corner of a fir tree plantation, continue straight ahead and follow the path. At the crossroads (not shown on OSM), turn right and enter the Deux Ourthes Nature Park. A path (not shown on OSM) will appear on your right; continue along it. Leave two paths (not on the maps) on your right and continue to a crossroads.

(9) Go straight ahead and exit from under the fir trees: you will see the wind turbines. Leave the path on your right, as well as the next one, and walk until you reach a road. Turn right to enter Cierreux and continue until you reach a fork (chapel).

(10) Turn left. Pass the Saint-Roch Chapel and continue straight ahead. Cross the Ruisseau des Fagnes stream and at the three-way junction, take the middle road, which further on becomes a dirt track. Ignore the path on the left and continue to a fork (not shown on OSM).

(11) Turn right. Cross the stream without getting your feet wet and continue. The path becomes a grassy trail, which then becomes a farm track. When you return to a wide track, turn left. At the road, continue left until you reach the concrete track on the right before entering Rogery.

(12) Turn right towards the farm building. Continue along the farm track at the building. The path turns sharply left and joins a carriageway. Turn right and stay on the main road, keeping conifers on your right and larch trees on your left. Leave the grassy path in the bend and continue to the right. A path (not shown on OSM) returns to your right: continue to the next crossroads (not shown on OSM).

(13) Turn left. Follow the gravel path downhill to the multiple crossroads with the car park.

(14) Leave the trail for a short detour, taking the Way of the Cross opposite to discover the Chapel of Notre-Dame des Malades on Mont Saint-Martin.

(15) Return to the multiple crossroads.

(14) Turn left. Pass Le Glain with a view of a beaver dam and continue to the N68.

(16) Cross the road with caution and take the forest path opposite for 350 m. At the crossroads, turn left. Stay on the main path for just over 1 km until you reach the crossroads (not on OSM) with paths leading to private property.

(17) Continue straight ahead on the main path for 1.2 km until you reach the crossroads at the edge of the forest.

(18) Go straight ahead. At the next crossroads with the water catchment, turn right. Pass the football field and continue straight ahead at the crossroads. The path becomes a road, enter Gouvy. Ignore the road on the left and walk to the T-junction. Turn left. At the bridge, continue straight ahead, pass a chapel on your left and continue to Gouvy station (E).
