This walk is shown on the “Val d’Allos – Upper Verdon Valley Trails and Walking Routes” sign. Follow the yellow markings and the “Piste de Vacheresse” signs to Le Brec.
Park at Le Cognet car park.
(S/E) Head towards the post office and the hiking sign on the side of the town hall. Walk up Avenue Verdon to the right and pass in front of Le Contact.
(1) Turn right onto Impasse du Pradas towards the brasserie of the same name and continue along the path, following the yellow markings for the Piste de Vacheresse. Cross Route du Brec and continue straight ahead into Impasse des Genêts. Then take the stairs on the right and head up Avenue des Mélèzes on the left until you reach the next sign.
(2) Head up Chemin Désiré to the right, then, at the first junction, turn left onto Chemin des Sorbiers and then take Chemin des Épicéas on the right.
Back on Avenue des Mélèzes, head left and take the stairs. For thethird time on Avenue des Mélèzes, head up to the left then take the path on the right to return to Avenue des Mélèzes one last time.
(3) Walk 250 m up the road to the junction with Rue des Sapins. Turn right onto Chemin de Vacheresse, following the yellow markings. At thefirst junction, continue straight ahead onto the snowshoe trail.
(4) At the junction towards the Ancienne Ferme des Bois, head towards Le Brec for 2.5 km, following the yellow markings. At the Forêt de Vacheresse sign, continue straight ahead.
(5) At the Bois de Vacheresse sign, turn right towards Le Brec.
(6) Turn left, then right at the next junction and left at the following junction. Cross a meadow. Head towards the first house in Brec Haut. At the junction, keep right on the road.
(7) At the sign for Le Brec 1647 m, head down to the right towards La Cluite.
(8) At the telephone box, leave the road and head down to the left towards La Cluite to join theGRP®. The path descends steeply towards the bridge crossing the Chadoulin, then climbs back up towards the GR®. Turn right towards Allos.
(9) Leave the track and take the path on the right signpostedGR®56. Continue to the old Moulin d’Allos. Head for the car park near the post office (S/E).
