On the ridge road, take the fork that leads to the Steinwasen farmhouse inn and park before the path descends to begin the hike.
(S/E) Follow the forest path until you come to a trail marked with yellow triangles. Turn left onto this trail and follow it to the farmhouse inn.
(1) Pass a little below the cliffs of the Batteriekopf.
After the farmhouse inn, follow the yellow circles on the path, which continues almost flat. This path enters the forest 200 metres further on. It is then that the landscape becomes truly alpine: the Rothenbachkopf towers above you, cross some scree and the vegetation becomes sparser.
At the fork, go up to the left to reach a pass on the ridge.
(2). This last climb is a little steep and impassable without equipment when there is still snow (sometimes late in the season at this location). Enjoy the view towards the Munster Valley.
Turn right to reach Rainkopf, a rounded summit.
(3) Follow the path along the ridge, marked with red and white rectangles. Return to the previous crossroads.
(2) Continue straight ahead. On the climb up Rothenbachkopf, you will see a cross by the side of the path. It serves as a reminder of the dangers of the mountains: two students died here in 1965, caught in a snowstorm and unable to find their way.
(4) Then continue towards the Batteriekopf.
(5) Continue straight ahead to return via the ridge to the starting car park (S/E).
