From Mittlach, climb to the top of the village and follow the road that leads to the Kolben Chapel/Kolben Fir Tree, where there is a small car park.
(S/E) From there, take the wide track that leaves from the left of the fir tree. After a few metres, a path marked with a yellow cross branches off to the left. Follow it to Lake Altenweiher.
(1) Cross the dam and take the path that climbs through the undergrowth along the lake; it is marked with a yellow horse and leads to Collet du Rainkopf. Part of the path is marked out in a sort of scree slope overgrown with vegetation.
(2) At the small pass of Rainkopf, take the path marked with a blue rectangle on the left. Be careful not to take theGR® marked differently. Climb to the summit of Rainkopf.
(3) There is a beautiful view of the rest of the route. From here, follow the ridge line to complete the trilogy. Follow the blue cross markings to stay on the ridge line: be careful, the blue rectangle descends towards the west and you should not take this path. You will soon reach the Col du Rothenbach, from where you can see the fairly steep climb.
(4) To continue, follow the red circle trail opposite. There are numerous steps along the climb.
(5) Just before the summit of Rothenbachkopf, the trail branches off to the left to reach the summit cairn.
(6) At the summit of Rothenbachkopf, take the small path that veers slightly to the left, southwest, to reach the mountain pastures. Do not descend via the Rond Rouge.
(7) The summit of the Batteriekopf is quickly reached and is not marked. From there, continue along the fairly straight path that crosses the meadows.
(8) At the Neurod car park, turn left and follow the tarmac road that leads to the Steinwasen farmhouse inn. Just before the farm, the path on the left marked with a yellow triangle allows you to avoid walking on the road.
(9) Pass the terrace of the inn and take the Blue Cross trail uphill, i.e. the branch on the left. Be careful not to follow the path downhill! After crossing a forest, you will come to a clearing and a crossroads in the middle of some boulders. You will see a path on the right that winds its way down the slope. It is marked with a yellow circle and descends towards Mittlach via the Leibelthal.
(10) Follow this path, which winds down several hairpin bends. After descending a few kilometres, you will reach a fork in the middle of a hairpin bend.
(11) Continue left on the Yellow Round trail, which avoids descending via a paved road and leads directly to the Kolben fir tree (S/E).
