Rothenbach car park on the Route des Crêtes
(D:A) Opposite the car park, take the path eastwards over the stubble to reach the Rothenbach pass.
(1) Follow theGR®5variant towards La Schlucht (red and white rectangle markings) passing the chicane to cross the pasture. Along the way, enjoy the view of Lac de Blanchemer on your left.
(2) Once you reach the small pass of Rainkopf, continue north on theGR®5, passing in front of the old Vosgien Club refuge in Mulhouse and near the Firstmiss farmhouse inn (you will pass the end of the car park) until you reach the junction with the path on the right.
(4) At the crossroads, turn right ontothe GR®531marked with a blue rectangle towards the Kastelberg farmhouse inn. Follow the path into the forest.
(5) At the edge of the forest, not far from the access road to the inn, follow the yellow cross markings on the right to descend towards the lake.
(6) When you reach the dam, you can walk around the lake. Alternatively, cross the dyke to join the path towards Les Chaumes.
(7) Follow the yellow horse signposts towards Firstmiss, passing through the Pferrey glacial valley. You will notice orchids growing here.
(2) At the Rainkopf small pass, head south and follow thefirst path on the left marked with a blue rectangle, which will take you to the top of Rainkopf. Along the way, admire the Altenweiher Lake and the Alsatian valleys.
(8) At the summit, altitude 1,305 m, view of the Rothenbachkopf. Follow the blue rectangle markings for a few metres.
(9) Leave the trail on your right and descend to the left (marked with a red and white rectangle) towards the Col du Rothenbach.
(1) At the intersection you passed at the start of the hike, turn right towards the Rothenbach car park (S/E).
