(Description updated in September 2025 following comments about the difficult start.
Park at Montgaillard-Lauragais Place de l'Église. There are a few parking spaces around the green area, on the side of the church. Otherwise, there are quite a few parking spaces along the cemetery wall, at the entrance to the village, 150 metres before the church.
(S/E) On Place de l'Eglise, with your back to the church, take Avenue du Lauragais to the left, then Rue des Ecoles, towards the town hall and the school, heading south-east. The street stays on the crest of the hill on which the village is built. Continue to Place de la Heath in front of the school, at the edge of the village.
(1) Without crossing the square, take a zigzag turn to the left (Rue de la Pierre Milliaire) then right (Chemin du Rieumajol) to take the GR® which heads in the same south-easterly direction. The carriage road descends gently at first. The GR® leaves this road a little further on to take a dirt track that branches off to the left, still in the same direction. Enjoy the descent to the plain with views of the Pyrenees.
(2) Cross a small bridge and continue straight ahead, surrounded by fields. Cross a small road and follow the GR® until it bends slightly to the right.
(3) Ignore this bend and leave the GR® by taking the path that branches off perpendicularly to the left. The path descends slightly, crosses a stream and climbs back up to a small departmental road at a place called Lamothe.
(4) Take the minor road on the left for 100 m, then leave it to take a small road that branches off to the right and zigzags across fields. Follow this road for about 1 km until you arrive next to a small pond on the left-hand side of the road.
(5) A small island and a few benches, very charming. Continue along the road and cross a small bridge. On the left side of the road, the stream flows over a small waterfall (if there is water...). after 200 metres, leave this road and take another small road on the right that goes uphill towards Trébons-sur-la-Grasse. At the fork that leads to the Fraysse property, ignore the climb on the left and continue on the right along the small road that descends slightly and leads to a place called La Cajole.
(6) At the crossroads, turn left and climb towards La Cajole, which you will bypass on the right via a farm track that runs alongside alternating woods and fields and leads, after 1 km, to La Martine and L'Ermitage. Once you reach this small village, descend to the D97.
(7) Follow the road (the only busy road on the route) to the left for 150 metres, then leave it at the first crossroads, turning right towards En Tusquet.
Reach En Tusquet and go around the house on the right, taking the farm track that then descends towards a stream. Another beautiful view of the Pyrenees!
At the stream, in the grove partly made up of bamboo, do not immediately turn left towards the village. Turn right and continue along the farm track that runs alongside the stream to rejoin the GR® trail from Arles to Toulouse.
(8) Take the GR® again by turning left and crossing the stream, heading towards Arles! Climb back up to the village. Once in the village, take any route you like to find the church. For example, you could walk around the village on the left, following the charming little streets to the car park where you started (S/E).
