Rouanne Valley

A lovely, easy snowshoe walk with very little elevation gain, which makes it very pleasant. You walk along the Rouanne stream, often through woodland, but are regularly treated to lovely views.

Description of the walk

The route starts from Ancelle in the Champsaur. Head to the Nordic chalet at the southern exit of the village, on the D213 towards the Col de Moissière. Use the free shuttle during school holidays or one of the car parks on either side of the chalet.

(S/E) From the Nordic chalet, head down a few metres to find the start of the snowshoe trails and follow the markers for route no. 2, which crosses the meadow towards La Rouanne. Join and follow the fence to go round the cross-country ski trails.

(1) Turn right to follow the bank of the Torrent de la Rouanne. Walk between the stream and the cross-country ski trails, passing the first bridge on your left and heading towards the second.

(2) Cross the Rouanne to reach the hamlet known as Le Peintre.

(3) Continuing to follow the markers for snowshoe route no. 2, head due west across the fields. Pass successively through Chabottes, then Les Auches, before reaching Ancelle near the Moulin Bresson, arriving at the Route de Saint-Léger.

(4) Continue to the left and join the Route des Taillas. Cross the bridge over the Rouanne and head up towards the Col de Moissière to reach the Nordic chalet (S/E).
