Description of the walk

The route starts from the car park at the Col d’Arnostéguy.

(S/E) Head east along a straight path that climbs up the slope towards the pass situated to the right of the Urkulu Tower, which is clearly visible on the ridge. Once on the ridge, turn left to visit the tower.

(1) Descend back to the pass via the same route. Continue westwards along the Haute Route Pyrénéenne path, lined with pidgeon hunting huts, to the Col Bidarraiko Lepoa.

(2) Take the grassy path on the right along the ridge towards the summit of Bentarte.

(3) Continue north-west to descend to a wide grassy pass and carry on along the ridge to Leizar Athéka.

(4) Descend back to the wide pass via the same path, then turn right towards the south-west to join the Way of St James as it leads to the Col de Bentarte.

(5) Turn left, heading east, onto the HRP.

(2) Pass over the Bidarraiko Lepoa Pass to return to the pass car park (S/E).

A round trip without any difficulty on these ridges and peaks with magnificent scenery! Not very busy towards Leizar Athéka but crowded towards Urkulu, where the view is more open and completely towards the east. Splendid! Thank you!
