Hiking tour from the climatic health resort of Westerheim to the Schertelshöhle and through the biosphere reserve. High up and deep down. At 815 metres, the climatic health resort of Westerheim is the highest settlement in the Alb-Donau District. But the route also takes us deep underground, namely into Schertelshöhle, one of the most impressive show caves in the Swabian Alb. Its huge stalactites and stalagmites are of fairy-tale beauty. On our walk starting from Westerheim, we reach the cave halfway along the route and can also visit the ‘Steinerne Haus’, which lies not far away. But the walk through the biosphere reserve has plenty more scenic beauty to offer. The circular route passes through both open farmland and attractive woodland areas, repeatedly reaching altitudes of over 800 metres.

This walk takes you through the twin towns of Bietigheim-Bissingen. The longest left-bank tributary of the Neckar takes centre stage – experience the Enz Valley in Bietigheim and Bissingen. Here, the Enz flows through picturesque meadow valleys, passes beneath the arches of the majestic Enz Viaduct and runs alongside the half-timbered buildings of Bietigheim’s old town. Rafting has left its mark, and the panoramic trail above Untermberg and the hills near Schellenhof offer some of the finest views.

With half-timbered houses, panoramic views of the Neckar and breathtaking gorges – discover the vineyard and rock scenery around Besigheim. Starting in Hessigheim, the tour leads along narrow paths up into the Felsengärten and offers views across the Neckar to the medieval town church of Besigheim. Following quiet country lanes, you reach the historic old town, which, with its traditional half-timbered houses and cosy alleyways, invites you to linger. On the banks of the Neckar, through tranquil vineyards, the route takes you past the Salenkanzel back to the starting point.

Wine as far as the eye can see – the discovery tour through the vineyard terraces around Kirchheim and the old Neckar bend near Bönnigheim. Starting from Kirchheim, this tour follows the banks of the Neckar and eventually climbs up to the Kirchheim vineyard terraces, offering views of the Neckar bend. On the hilltop, benches invite you to take a relaxing break in the sunshine before you pass apple and pear trees and reach the wine trail across the old Neckar bend towards Hohenstein. Here, you’ll gain a comprehensive insight into the region’s diverse range of grape varieties and enjoy views of Hohenstein Castle – a tour for connoisseurs!

A varied walking tour through one of the most beautiful sections of the Lone Valley and through the Eschental to the edge of the Markhau. The Fohlenhaus rock formation in the Lone Valley is a relic from prehistoric times, formed from the reefs of the Jurassic Sea and fossilised into rock over millions of years. It stands clearly visible at a bend in the River Lone, and the lovely rest area next to it is ideal for barbecues and games. The Fohlenhaus Loop encompasses one of the most beautiful sections of the Lone Valley. The walk follows mostly unspoilt paths and trails and is characterised by the stunning landscape. Whether along the river valley, through the rocky Eschental or at the Küchleshalde, the variety of valleys, woodland and elevation changes is perfect.
