Park at the edge of the Verdon, at the hiking information board at the end of Rue des Eaux Chaudes.
(S/E) Head towards the bridge, turn right and take one of the paths to reach the bridge. Take the yellow and red marked path and at the Le Moulin signpost follow the direction of Notre-Dame des Œufs.
On the road, turn left, cross the Verdon and at the end of the bridge turn left onto the road leading to the lake. After 50 metres, continue right on the road, pass the La Buissière signpost and continue on the road (Chemin d'Auurafrède). You will reach the crossroads at the chapel.
(1) Take the left path, at the signpost follow the direction of Notre-Dame des Œufs and continue straight on the flat path, then uphill.
(2) At the T-junction on the climb, at the signpost, turn left to reach the Notre-Dame des Œufs chapel. After visiting, return to the junction and continue straight ahead towards Le Défends. Climb the ramps and stairs. When you reach a small square, continue straight ahead to take a track and continue along this track.
Join the road at the Le Defends signpost.
(3) Turn left towards Plage de Saint Julien. Continue along the road, ignoring the tracks leading off to the right or left. You will reach Lake Esparron.
(4) Continue to the right to reach the bank of the old canal against the wooden railings and at the Plage de Saint Julien signpost, continue straight ahead on the bank, climbing the stairs towards Lac d'Esparron. Continue straight ahead, passing in front of a stone bridge, following the markings.
(5) The canal enters a tunnel, so leave the bank and take the path uphill. After the climb, cross the flat rocks and, at the end of the path on the rock, turn right to reach a track in front of a signpost.
(6) Turn left to take the descending track. At a crossroads, continue straight ahead to reach the Lac d'Esparron signpost. Continue straight ahead towards Ponton du Lac, descend into the old canal and climb up the opposite bank. Follow the path straight ahead and walk along the lake on the right, continuing along the small path against the bank.
At the Ponton du Lac signpost, take the small marked path along the lake shore towards Les Quartiers and continue along this path. You will arrive at an old bridge over the old canal.
(7) Continue straight ahead along the bank of the old canal, join a track and turn right, pass in front of a building and reach a crossroads at the Le Quartier signpost.
(8) Take the track on the left towards Gabiane, continue straight ahead on this uphill track, leaving the yellow and red markings.
(9) At the fork in the two tracks, continue straight ahead, continue the short climb to reach a fire hydrant, take the track on the right and continue straight ahead to reach the Gabiane signpost.
(10) Take the right-hand track towards Pas de Verré, following the orange markings. At the next junction (552m), continue straight ahead on the track, pass the SJN5 fire hydrant and continue straight ahead. You will reach the next fire hydrant, SJN3.
(11) Turn left, then left again and continue straight ahead on this new track towards Pas de Verré. Pass an antenna and continue straight ahead. Join a track at the second antenna at the Pas de Verré post.
(12) Follow the yellow markings, turn right along the fence. Before the descent, continue straight ahead for a few metres to reach a viewpoint, retrace your steps, and reach the Le Défends sign.
(3) At the road, turn left to reach the first crossroads you took at the start.
(1) Follow the same route back to the car park where you started (S/E).
A very beautiful, long but super easy hike on mostly dirt paths with no protruding stones (you could do it in trainers).
