The ruins of Pujol and the banks of the Verdon, starting from Gréoux-les-Bains

A pleasant and easy circular hike in Gréoux-les-Bains, a medieval Provençal village well known for its Roman baths. Starting from Cité Paradis, the route climbs up to Château Laval, leads to the Pujol ruins, runs along the banks of the Verdon, crosses Morelon Park and returns to the starting point via the centre of Gréoux-les-Bains.

Description of the walk

Park in the small car park on Rue Cité Paradis.

(S/E) Go down Impasse de la Gamatte, turn right and cross the Ruisseau Notre-Dame. Turn right and continue straight ahead, ignoring the Canal de Pontoise bridge. Walk for about 100 m.

(1) Take the path on the left leading to Laval and its castle.

(2) At the first building, turn right, follow the track and start a short climb. At the first high-voltage power line, cross the crossroads and continue straight ahead until you reach the junction about 30 metres from the second high-voltage power line.

(3) Turn left and after 100 metres, at the end of the right-hand bend, first turn left then right to reach the crossroads at the Pujols ruins, where you will join the GR®4 and GRP® Tour du Lac d'Esparron.

(4) Cross the crossroads, passing to the left of the ruins. Begin the descent along the track, following the double markings, and continue to the Route de Riez (D952).

(5) Cross it carefully, follow the Chemin du Babaou running parallel to the D952 for 50 m, turn right and arrive at the picnic area at the Canal de Pontoise. Continue straight on along the Chemin de Saint-Christol down to the banks of the Verdon.

(6) Turn right, walk along the Verdon via the Promenade Henri Atger, passing in front of the Verdon guinguette.

(7) Before the Pont du Verdon (D8), join Avenue du Verdon by going up the path on the right. Cross the road carefully, take Chemin de la Barque opposite and continue the short climb to Avenue des Alpes.

(8) Turn left immediately to enter Parc Morelon, cross it and descend to the viewpoint to admire the beautiful view of the Verdon valley.

(9) Retrace your steps and quickly turn left. Opposite the large building, take the path on the left to leave the park and reach Avenue des Aires at the Saint-Sébastien Chapel. Turn right and follow this avenue. Cross the bridge on Avenue des Alpes (D952), continue left at the crossroads, keeping to the avenue, and pass in front of the town hall and Notre-Dame des Ormeaux Church. Continue to the crossroads with Rue Grande.

(10) Turn right, go down Rue Grande and make a short detour to the right to see Placette Pauline. Then rejoin the route on the right, continue along Avenue des Marronniers and on to the large roundabout.

(11) Take Avenue Elie Gravier (Route de Valensole) slightly to the left and follow it for about 300 metres. Turn right and go down Rue Cité Paradis to return to the car park where you started (S/E).

Dear Lydia, thank you for your review, which is admittedly a little 'disappointing'.
The description of this hike, published on 9 February 2026, was approved by a Visorando moderator.
Could you tell me what is disappointing?
Regarding the ease of following the route, I suggest you use your mobile phone with GPS enabled, Visorando to read the track and follow the GPX route. You won't be disappointed.
When the thermal baths are open, this is a very popular route.

PS: I have been a spa visitor in Gréoux-les-Bains for many years.

A nice little two-hour walk, but disappointed by the route description. Not comprehensive enough, or at least not clear enough. This meant that we did the end of the walk differently. It wasn't bad, but that's not the point of a description. And the problem is that this isn't the first time this has happened to us.
