A circular route starting from La Guérillerie

Walk around La Guérillerie. Few roads and magnificent paths, but be careful: the route is unmarked (there are two or three traces here and there; this route would benefit from being re-marked).

Description of the walk

Park in the grassy car park at La Guérillerie, where you’ll find the glass and paper recycling bins.

(S/E) Set off along the road on the right. Very quickly, leave it and take the path on the right. Head downhill, cross the first stream, and continue until you reach the Ruisseau de Soumagnas.

(1) Head up to the right until you reach the road.

(2) Follow it to the left for a few dozen metres, then take the first path on the right. You’ll soon reach a crossroads.

(3) Turn left heading due south and follow a small pond. You’ll reach a large bend and head north again

(4) Take the path on the right that goes uphill, passing a reservoir on your left. At the junction, turn left and head uphill.

(5) At the T-junction, turn right. At the end of the path, you’ll reach a small road; follow it left for 1 km towards Prunièrias. At the crossroads, turn left towards Le Belhomme.

(6) At the junction just before the hamlet, turn left and head downhill towards Les Ardilloux.

(7) At the entrance to the hamlet, turn right onto a path that is muddy in wet weather. Cut across a path and go straight on to the hamlet of Cramaux.

(8) At the road, turn right and cross through Cramaux. Cross a road and take the track opposite. Continue straight on, past the hamlet of Le Coudert, until you reach the D675.

(9) Then turn right (south-east).

(10) Cross a first road, then a second ( caution: danger ) to reach the third road at the junction by the houses in Les Grandes Pièces.

(11) Take this road on the left (caution: busier road ). After about 300 m, turn sharply right to enter the Bois du Bouchet. Walk alongside a quarry and cross a path.

(12) At the end of the quarry, take a path on the right. Further on, cross a road and head straight ahead to reach the Guérillerie car park (S/E).

Several tricky spots
loop 3-4 climb towards 5 path damaged by logging and pond cleaning: fortunately very dry at the end of summer
Point 7: path not visible at all except for a small bridge crossing the ditch at the start of the road. Continues along a very narrow, parish-specific, uneven, sunken path, badly damaged by runoff and overgrown with grass. Arrival on the flat section: path cut twice by electric wires installed by the neighbouring farmer to connect two plots separated by the path, where Limousin cattle (with their owner) were peacefully grazing
over a distance of about ten metres between the two fences, the cows trample the ground intensely, which can turn into mud during wet periods

Junction point 10 - point 11: after the plum trees, the parish specific to Brittany very good path gradually disappears
to the point of being impossible to find for the last 100 metres, before rejoining the road at point 11. The only solution is to cross the meadows, go around an orchard and some beehives, then cross what appear to be private plots by the roadside to reach 11

As mentioned at the start of the description, the signposting is rather basic, but the description more than makes up for it, even though we got lost between points 10 and 11, having become too absorbed by the surroundings.

A lovely route, with a bit of road walking; the signposting could do with an update.
