Park in the free car park at the village hall.
(S/E) Cross the small bridge and then turn left onto the greenway, marked with red-white-red rectangles. Walk along the Weiss River for a while, then turn right to enter a wooded area. Continue until you reach a street.
(1) Follow this street, pass the swimming pool and the Alspach industrial estate, and arrive at the paper mill where the thousand-year-old Alspach Abbey is located, which is open to visitors (unfortunately, it is not always accessible).
(2) Retrace your steps and continue along the path, still marked with red-white-red rectangles, which leaves the road and climbs into the forest. Pass the Oratory of Saint John on your right. Go around a small fishing pond on the left.
(3) Don't miss the ruins of the Val Saint-Jean hermitage, dating from 1120. Continue climbing, following the same markings. Cut across a forest road and further on, join another road at a bend.
(4) Follow it to the left, then leave it at a hairpin bend to reach the pretty hamlet of Ursprung.
(5) Cross this hamlet and, at the exit, follow the yellow disc markings. The climb is over for the rest of the hike. A more relaxing path takes us to Saint-Alexis (where you can enjoy a meal on the pretty terrace). You can visit the small chapel by asking for the key at the restaurant.
(6) Continue by turning right onto the Blue Cross marked path which descends into the forest.
(7) At the fork in the path, continue on the right-hand branch, following the same markings, until you reach a crossroads.
(8) At a four-way crossroads, continue straight ahead on the path still marked with blue crosses. Continue to the large crossroads at Chêne de la Chapelle.
(9) Follow the path marked "remarkable trees" which continues straight ahead (ignore the two paths that branch off to the left and right). You will arrive at Rocher des Corbeaux, which offers a magnificent view of the entire valley.
(10) After 200 m, at the junction with a forest path, join the path marked with blue crosses, which continues into the forest.
(11) Just after the junction with another forest path, go around the antenna. The trail then becomes increasingly steep and stony until you reach the castle, whose keep is open to visitors (splendid view of the town).
(12) Continue along the Anneau Rouge marked trail, which takes you to the centre of the old town.
(13) Just in front of the Church of the Invention of the Holy Cross (1225) is the pretty Constantin fountain (1521). Don't hesitate to take a quick look at the Mont des Oliviers gallery (1500) located just behind it. Continue along the typical little street for 200 metres.
(14) Turn left to cross the small bridge over the Weiss (1514, the only fortified bridge in Alsace). Continue straight ahead to the right, and after 100 metres, cross the Weiss again.
(15) Continue straight ahead to the left. The Anneau Bleu marked trail climbs slightly and takes us gently through the vineyards. After 1 km and at the crossroads of four roads, leave the marked trail and continue along the road on the far left for 100 m.
Return to the path you took at the very beginning. Cross the Weiss and arrive at the car park (S/E).
