Description of the walk

Start from the car park at Place Saint-Hilaire in Blaru.

(S/E) With your back to the belfry, head right into Rue du Pont, then take a detour left into Impasse Saint-Adjutor to see the wash house (sign).

(1) Retrace your steps and turn left into Rue du Pont, then left again into Rue de la Garenne.

(2) At a T-junction, turn right into Rue du Val d'Aconville (red and white markings) and follow it for about 900 m.

(3) Just before a green high-voltage substation (on the right-hand side of the road), turn right onto theGR® 26, which climbs steeply. Ignore a path branching off to the left.

(4) After about 80 m, at a crossroads near some houses, leave the GR® and head left towards the Bois de Port-Villez. Ignore all side paths and continue along this track until you reach the D915.
Take care on the steep, stony descent.

(5) Cross the D915 at the pedestrian crossing to reach the Chemin du Ponceau on the opposite side, go under a railway bridge and then turn left onto the towpath.

(6) At the next junction, turn left (red and white markings), go under another railway bridge and cross the D6015 with care. Continue straight ahead along Rue du Petit Val, which climbs quite steeply.

(7) Turn left onto theGR® (markings on a metal barrier). Stay on thisGR® for about 3.3 km until you come to a small bridge.

(8) Pass under it on the right (there is a wooden sign for Bonnières GR®26 15 km). Watch your head!

(9) Turn left onto Rue de la Vallée, ignoring the side streets, until you reach a T-junction (crossroads). Turn right towards the church.

(10) After walking around the building, retrace your steps towards the centre of the village of Blaru and Chaufour. Walk past the town hall and the school, then return to the starting point (S/E).

Worth a visit

Blaru

Saint-Hilaire Church: a small church built at a private individual’s expense in 1910, featuring original architecture with Far Eastern influences.
Following the separation of Church and State in 1906, the mayor of Blaru had the 13th-century church blown up, as he considered its upkeep too costly for the commune.

Saint-Adjutor Washhouse: restored in the 17th century, this washhouse is attached to a spring believed to possess miraculous properties, particularly for treating blindness and rheumatism.

Belfry: Place Saint-Hilaire.

Old mill: Sente opposite the (2) / corner of Rue du Moulin and the cul-de-sac.

A pleasant route, especially in summer as it is very shaded. Relatively accessible for those new to long-distance hiking, like me. As mentioned in previous comments, the duration is closer to 2½ hours.
The elevation gain is manageable (between points 3 and 4), but make sure you have good shoes for the descent on the rocks just before point 5.
It's a shame that the section that follows the GR between points 6 and 7 is so monotonous... but it's not unpleasant nonetheless.
I found the descriptions relatively well done and in any case the route is perfectly marked.
Thank you.

The walking time is automatically calculated based on a speed of 3.5 km/h.
The actual time is closer to 2 hours 30 minutes.
Thank you for your suggestions.

At the start of October, with glorious weather, we went on a lovely 2½-hour hike...

It might be worth updating the following points:
(3) When you reach the top and the path widens, ignore the path branching off to the left.
(4) As you leave the woods, stay on the path to cross the clearing, then, before the houses, turn left
the path that runs alongside these houses.

Directions 4 and 8 are not specific enough
Hiking time given as 3½ hours.
It took me 2½ hours, extending the route by 2 to 3 km...

Hello Ovil
On 1 July 2021, all the markings mentioned in the report were clearly visible.
It would appear that this is no longer the case!
Please feel free to use the SURICATE website (see the ‘Practical Information’ section) to report this issue.
Registration and use are very quick and easy. I’ve used it several times (environment, safety, markings, etc.). We get a response every time and, as far as markings are concerned, problems are resolved relatively quickly. Let’s not forget that it’s volunteers who look after all the marked trails in France!
Enjoy your future hikes!

A walk starting from Vernon, having previously completed the route known as "from Bonnières to Vernon via Giverny" in cold, misty weather,
From Vernon to point 6, our starting point, we follow the Seine along a wide concrete path.
We made the same mistakes as the previous hiker.
We turned too early before the small bridge (point 7); I was misled by a sign on a tree reading “Mountain bike turn-off 300 metres”. The path we took led to the bottom of Rue de la Vallée. This is another way to reach Blaru.
I also took the path opposite a green transformer with yellow flowers on it, before realising fairly quickly that I was on the wrong track.
I didn’t see any signposts between Blaru and the green transformer. All the electricity poles look new; they’ve probably been replaced and the signposting hasn’t been updated.
Indeed, the stony descent (point 4) is a bit tricky, especially at the end of the day at this time of year when the sun is setting and the mist is thickening.

Hello Jojo78
As soon as I read your comments, I found them rather hard to understand.
But as nobody is perfect, I’ve just been on this walk today with some friends.

You note:
In section 3, there is a transformer and a first path that turns right and goes up into the woods. However, you should have taken the next path.
I noted:
(3) Just before a high-voltage substation, turn right onto the GR® 26, which climbs quite steeply. Ignore a path branching off to the left.
For your information, the markings for a GR (Grande Randonnée) are white and red. On the ground, there is a mark on an electricity pole indicating that you should turn right, and just opposite the high-voltage substation there is a white and red cross on the back of a road sign indicating that the GR does not follow the road and that you must therefore turn right.

You will then note:
In section 8 of the description, it’s not easy to find your way as there are no markings.
I wrote:
(8) Go under it on the right towards Bonnières GR®26 15km (sign). Watch your head!
and just before (7): … Continue along this GR® until you come to a small bridge.
The small bridge is clearly visible, particularly its metal railings. There is a GR marker just before the bridge. There are two options: carry on straight ahead or turn right. Just before passing under the bridge, there is indeed a wooden sign with the directions I mentioned.
Kind regards
