Description of the walk

Park near the Church of Saint-Nicolas de Vernonnet.

GR®2: white and red markings

(S/E) With your back to the church, turn left onto the D313, Rue de Magny en Vexin, then immediately right onto Rue des Huit Portes. You are now at the end of the street at the start of theGR®2variant.

(1) Set off on theGR®2variant towards Giverny. Walk along Île de l'Horloge, then join the Sente de Vernon crossroads at a place called Manitôt.

(2) Turn left and climb the path to enter the Bois Garenne. Reach thePR® crossroads at an open plateau.

(3) Turn right, begin the descent and arrive at Bout de Giverny.

(4) Turn left, go uphill, then turn right and continue to a crossroads at Val au Bois du Gros.

(5) Turn right and join the C3 road. Keep to the right and enter Giverny. At the fork, turn left. Continue along Rue Hélène Pillon and, at the end, take the path uphill on the left. After a few bends, you will reach a new crossroads in the Bois du Gros Chêne.

PR® marked in yellow

(6) Leave theGR®2here and turn left onto the yellow-markedPR®. At the next crossroads, turn left, then a few metres further on, turn right and head north-west along a clearing, the Mare de Cossy, at the level of a high-voltage power line. Continue along the edge of the woods until you reach a road. Turn left onto it and continue to the Réserve crossroads under the high-voltage power line.

(7) Take the wide path on the right. At the three-way junction that follows, continue straight ahead, crossing the Mare de Giverny and then Fond des Marettes. At the three-way junction, you will find aPR® trail. Take it to the left for a few metres and you will arrive at the Bois de Garenne junction that you passed on the way there.

GR®2: white and red markings

(3) Turn right and retrace your steps to reach the Manitôt crossroads, which you also passed on the way there.

(2) Continue straight ahead to the D5, leaving theGR®2variant on your right. Cross it carefully, then take theGR®2and follow the right bank of the Seine. Shortly before the bridge, turn right to reach Rue des Combattants d'Indochine. Cross the D5 carefully and take Rue de la Ravine opposite. You will then return to the initial crossroads.

(1) Retrace your steps to return to the car park near the Church of Saint-Nicolas de Vernonnet (S/E).

A beautiful hike that takes you through the woods and along paths, with a few roads on the outskirts of Giverny.
I agree with some of the previous comments: the trail is a bit tricky in places, especially at point 2, but if you pay attention to your surroundings and follow the description, you'll quickly find your way back on track.

I think walking poles are essential, especially in wet weather, as the route is quite steep.

Thanks to the author for sharing.

A pleasant route with a good variety of landscapes (plains/forest). I counted three moderate difficulties. Walking shoes (with reinforced toes) are necessary in some places due to "large rocks", so watch your toes. Depending on the weather, walking sticks can be very useful on certain slopes, especially the first one.
The route is very precise and only 20-30% of it is on tarmac (greenway at the start and end).
I recommend it.

Some directions are not easy to follow. I was unable to follow the entire route.
For example, the description of the first part is entitled "white and red markings", whereas you have to turn left onto a path marked "yellow".

A lovely short walk around Giverny with beautiful views of the Seine valley. A good part of it is through very pleasant woodland. I will do it again.

Hello, I did this hike starting from Giverny (easier to park there) as part of a short break. The signposting and route were fine. We had our picnic in Vernon, on the banks of the Seine, at the foot of the mill. I just changed the return route to avoid the climb we did on the way down (points 2 and 3) by following the Vernon path to rejoin the PR and arrive at the "end of Giverny," then resumed the route from point 4. Otherwise, it was a beautiful circular route with lots of variety and lovely scenery. The hike ended with a visit to Giverny, the gardens and Monet's house.

A very beautiful walk that is easy to follow, with two climbs that are a bit difficult if you are not trained. Beautiful scenery!
