To park, continue past the car park at IGN 1294m and after the next hairpin bend, turn right onto a forest track and park 200m further on at Ravin des Trois Fontaines.
Important warning: this hike was described before theGR®738was created; there was very little (if any) signage and the paths were faint. Today, it is possible to reach the (6) from the (2) by staying entirely on a wide path marked in white and red. If you do so and give your opinion on the hike, please do not indicate that the route or description is unreliable (since you will not have followed it). Please note that theGR® does not pass through Les 3 Laux (4), which is a shame at the start of the season (until mid-June); from July onwards, the current weather conditions make this part less interesting.
(S/E) From the car park, continue along the track on the right which crosses the stream near a pumping station. Stay on the wide track upstream (do not head towards the Betta bridge) which heads west and climbs slightly before descending to join theGR®549at the Ravin de l'Avalanche.
From there, follow the red and white marked trail on the left that leads to Lac de Crop, passing by the two hamlets of the same name.
(1) At Lac de Crop, leave the lake on your right and follow it, staying on theGR®549(red and white) leading to the Col de la Mine de Fer.
At the start of the season, it is easy to cut across the snowfields to make faster progress. Otherwise, take the winding path that heads south. Below Petit Replomb, the trail veers eastward into scree (or snowfields) and the slope becomes gentler. After a flat section above the cliffs overlooking Lac Bleu, it heads south and then southwest to reach Col de la Mine de Fer.
(2) Once at the pass, turn around to locate the Brèche de Roche Fendue to the east-northeast: from here, the route is marked in yellow and sometimes with blue dots. Retrace your steps for about 150m, then head due east under the foothills of the Colomb before descending towards the IGN contour line at 2296m. Do not descend lower than the nearby cliffs, and climb back up to the east into the scree-covered valley leading to the Brèche de Roche Fendue.
(3) At the Brèche, descend eastwards along the steepest slope for about 250m before turning north when the Trois Laux lakes come into view. Then descend towards these lakes until you reach the right bank (south bank) of the largest one.
(4) Stay on this bank and turn right (east) to follow the stream bed that serves as an overflow for the lake. You will soon come to a marked path that turns north to cross the stream and climb slightly up a ridge (it is also possible to go around the ridge by staying at the same level, but there are some sheep-sheared rocks that make this option more difficult: when the terrain becomes too steep, descend due east to go around these rocks at the base and then return north towards Le Clot). After this ridge, arrive above the shepherd's shelter at Le Clot du Ban and descend as far as you can see, for example via a small rock-lined corridor (see GPS track) to the west-northwest.
(5) At Clot, do not continue on the path that descends slowly towards the east, but climb up steeply off the path, aiming for the right side of a small dome (IGN elevation 2134m) to the northeast. From there, join a path connecting Sifflet to Pas de la Coche (spaced yellow markings). Continue along this path, heading northeast, slightly below the ridge, to reach the Pas de la Coche and its lake.
(6) From Pas de la Coche, a good path marked in yellow heads west. It crosses a stream just below Habert d'Aiguebelle before plunging between meadows and forest towards the starting point (S/E).
