Departure from the upper station of the Gemmibahn. Take the cable car from the lower station in Leukerbad (Talstation Gemmi).
(S/E) Head north-west and follow the path down towards Daubensee.
(1) At the signpost, turn right towards Daubensee and pass under the cable car line.
(2) At a fork, keep right (the left path will be the return route). At the next fork (elevation 2,284), keep left and continue on the path that descends gently to the lake.
(3) Follow the lake on your left and arrive at an intersection at its north-eastern tip.
(4) There are two options here (plus an additional option described in the practical information):
- Return by the same route, for a similar elevation gain but via an easier path and a less steep return.
- As shown on the map, continue along the white-red marked trail along the lake. At the fork that appears shortly after, turn left to stay as close to the lake as possible. Further on, ignore a path on the right and pass the north-western tip of the lake.
(5) Turn left and walk along the lake for a long time. Pass its southern tip and follow the Lämmerendalu river, into which the lake flows.
(6) Shortly afterwards, take a footbridge on the left to cross the Lämmerendalu. On the other side, continue straight ahead (south-east). Ignore an unmarked path on the right that climbs steeply and arrive at the lower station of the Daubensee-Gemmipass cable car.
(7) There are two options here:
- Take the cable car to return effortlessly to the upper station of the Gemmibahn (S/E). Ask for information at the Gemmibahn departure point in Leukerbad.
- As shown on the map, continue along the path. Ignore the paths on the right and continue uphill. This will take you to a junction that you passed on the way there.
(2) Turn right, pass under the cable car line and climb uphill.
(1) At the signpost, turn left and quickly reach the upper station of the Gemmibahn (S/E).
