Park in the square in Presles.
(S/E) Head west along the Chemin de Serre Cocu, which starts above the inn, and follow it.
(1) At Serre Cocu, you have a panoramic view of the Isère and the Chambarans moraine.
Continue to the right towards the Croix Bernard.
(2) The path heads off to the right (north-east). At the fork, take the left-hand path, which turns south-east before heading due north. Pass a road on the right, then the path heads north-east again to reach the village of Le Faz.
(3). At the crossroads in Le Faz, take the stony path that climbs up in front of you. You begin a steep climb to the Pas de Pré-Bourret, the highest point of the day.
(4) At the pass, ignore the path branching off to the right (it leads to La Lunette. It’s quite a long way, but you can continue and head down further east towards Malleval). The Tour des Coulmes, however, heads straight ahead and begins the descent towards Malleval.
You pass the beautiful, renovated Gontier building. Admire the carvings on the door lintels of this building, standing alone in the middle of a vast meadow.
(5) The path crosses the meadow from west to east. You reach La Vieille
(6) Take a small grassy path that descends to the left. You pass Railletière and enter Malleval-en-Vercors (S/E).
