Description of the walk

The start of the hike in the village of Presles is accessible by car and has parking spaces.

(S/E) Head east on Chemin du Faubourg, following the yellow/green markings towards Fontaine de Pétouze. You will soon reach the signpost indicating the Sappey cross, which is 50 metres away.

(1) Cross the road and continue towards Pétouze. Further on, you will come to a small road leading to Les Bournets.

(2) Turn right, then very quickly right again onto the yellow/green marked trail towards Pétouze. On this climb along a wide path, turn left (after 450 m) onto a small path (markings barely visible). This leads to a small road which, on the left, takes you to the Fontaine de Pétouze, where water flows practically all year round.

(3) Opposite the fountain, take the path that climbs towards Le Faz and stay on this path until you reach a crossroads at La Ravassière (altitude 1118 m).

(4) Continue straight ahead towards Le Faz on the beautiful yellow/green marked path to the Grottes aux Bœufs (there are no signs to this cave).

(5) At this point, a barely marked path on the right will take you there. You will need to walk 200 m to reach it and then return to the path, continuing downhill towards Le Faz.

(6) At Chamfra, continue straight ahead. This small path is particularly pretty and leads to the Faz cross-country ski centre.

(7) Pass in front and continue on the road towards Presles in a south-westerly direction for 500 metres, then take a path on the right marked yellow/red towards Presles.

(8) Turn right onto this yellow/red marked path, which quickly offers a superb view of the southern Grésivaudan valley.

(9) Pass Les Brignes, still on this yellow/red marked trail, without difficulty. Cross the Morel Farm and arrive at a fork.

(10) Turn right towards Presles. A shortcut allows you to descend to Presles via the road on the left. At the end of this path, you will arrive at a small road that climbs to the right to the visible cross.

(11) Follow the path climbing to the left, leaving the road, continue towards Serre Cocu and arrive at a crossroads.

(12) Take the time to climb up to the Serre Cocu viewpoint (200 m) and admire the Royans below. Return to the trail and follow the path (GRP®) which descends eastwards towards Presles. The descent can be slippery in wet weather. Take care. Return to the village of Presles (S/E).

A walk mainly through the forest, where the boxwood is attacked by moths, with a few viewpoints and beautifully renovated houses. The main attraction was discovering the ox cave (marked by a pile of stones). To venture inside, bring a headlamp and be careful, as it is slippery... Took 3 hours and 45 minutes at a leisurely pace, including a picnic break and a visit to the cave.

A very beautiful walk, with lovely varied paths (forests, fields, a few sections on tarmac, but nothing too long), fairly gentle climbs, and beautiful views on the second part (after Le Faz).
We missed a turn-off shortly after Presles but were able to pick up the trail again a little further on without any problems. What's more, two black and white dogs followed us from Presles to Le Faz (three-quarters of the way along the walk), turning back to check that we were following the right trail and that they knew it! But as we stopped for a picnic after Le Faz (on a rock in front of a farm, facing the sea of clouds covering the valley... superb), our two friends took charge of a new group of walkers!
What's more, this return trip allowed us to do a few geocaches, then a failed detour to Serre-Cocu (we took the lower path that led to the lodge: be careful, at point 12, you have to take the small gate and not the path indicated by the sign... ).

In short, a beautiful and very pleasant walk, thank you!

A beautiful, fairly easy, shaded hike, ideal when it's hot in the valley.

Grotte aux Bœufs cave near the trail is very nice!

Some very pretty views over different valleys.
