Description of the walk

Start from the Noire Combe car park.

(S/E) Head towards the Chalet de la Frèche along a steep path marked in yellow.

(1) Continue past the chalet towards the plateau.

(2) Turn right as you climb beneath the Grands Moulins towards the Col du Fort, situated at an altitude of 2,145 metres.

(3) Then head for the Col de Pré Remy.

(4) Turn right onto a sloping path leading downwards.
It is not uncommon to spot chamois in these remote valleys.

(5) Cut across a wide path and continue straight ahead, due south.
Finally, descend back to the starting point via the Forêt de Noire Combe (S/E).

Super Hike
No one on the trail this Sunday, 24/08/2025
Very well marked route (signs, yellow markings)
However, there are some steep climbs and descents, right from the start!
The view at the Col du Fort is simply magnificent

A lovely, quiet walk through two valleys full of flowers (lots of rhododendrons in the second one).
The ascent and descent are actually quite steep – it really works your legs
A lovely view from the Col du Fort; the breeze was pleasant on this sweltering day, but do remember to bring a fleece if you’re doing the walk in autumn.
However, near Lac de la Frèche, I came across a snake and some horseflies, so do be careful.

A lovely, quiet hike through two small, unspoilt valleys. Stunning views of Mont Blanc from the Col du Fort. The descent is very steep and requires you to brace your thighs – watch out for sore muscles the next day – and can be a bit tricky in autumn, with lots of leaves and pine cones creating a sort of ‘treadmill’ effect. Thank you
