Walk through the woods of Blaisy-Haut via Puits XV

Starting from ventilation shaft XV, this lovely family walk through woods and meadows will take you to the petrifying spring of the Fontaine du Loup with its cascades, and to the charming wash house at Blaisy-Haut. It passes through the village with its pretty church and picturesque cemetery, and will lead you to the magnificent entrance to the fortified castle. You can also pop over to take a look at one of the famous ventilation shafts of the tunnel that cuts through the mountain between Baulme-la-Roche and Blaisy-Bas, which was, for a time, the longest railway tunnel in France. Ventilation shaft XV is one of them, and it has given its name to the restaurant situated opposite your car park, on the other side of the road.

Description of the walk

Park opposite the Restaurant du Puits XV.

(S/E) Opposite the restaurant, turn left, then take the footpath on your left which descends towards Blaisy-Haut, until you reach the junction with a signposted path that branches off sharply to your left, after about 500 metres.

(1) Turn left to follow this path, which first turns right then continues in a straight line through the Bois des Chouettes. Walk for about 800 m.

(2) Turn right at a 90° angle to take the signposted path leading to the edge of the plateau, where it drops down towards the valley on your right. Walk down towards the valley for barely a hundred metres.

(3) Take the small path on the left which leads straight to the Fontaine du Loup: admire the petrifying spring and its little waterfalls.

(4) Turn round and head back to the junction.

(3) Resume the route to the left and follow the path until you reach the Blaisy-Haut washhouse, on your right.

(5) Carry on for a further 400 m until you reach the village’s central crossroads.

(6) Take thesecond street on the left (diagonally) to pass in front of the town hall, then Saint-Martin’s Church, set in the middle of a picturesque cemetery. Carry on to the entrance to the fortified castle.

(7) Turn round to return to the crossroads.

(6) Walk up the main road opposite for about a hundred metres.

(8) Turn right onto the path that enters the Bois du Jardin and leads back towards Puits XV.

(1) Keep to the left and follow the original path in the opposite direction to return to the car park (S/E).
