Park at Place des Fourneaux in Maincy, where you can admire the wash house.
(S/E) From the square, head towards the village bakery and start the walk by turning left onto Rue Thiers. Take the first right, Rue de la Bordière, then turn left immediately to climb the few steps towards the gymnasium, which you will walk alongside. Continue straight ahead; the school playground and town hall are on your right. Take the first left, Rue Alfred et Edme Sommier. After about 250 metres, you will come to a crossroads. Turn right and walk up Rue Marcel Gertener.
(1) After about 100 metres, turn left onto Sentier des Grands Jardins. You will walk alongside a small field enclosed within the village and enter a wood. Follow the path. After walking alongside the wall surrounding the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, the path will take you out of the wood on the other side of the field.
Continue along Chemin des Arpents and then turn left to continue up Rue Marcel Gertener, which you left earlier. Continue up the street, slightly to the left, until you reach the crossroads where there is a water tower.
(2) Turn right onto Chemin des Hautes Guichardes. At the end of the road, turn right and cross the road to take a small path slightly to the right that leads through the fields. On the other side of the field, leave the new housing development on your right and turn right to return towards the village.
After about 100 metres, take the path on your left at the village map and walk along the back of the houses. After the last house, the path turns right and joins Rue de Melun.
(3) Cross over and turn right onto Rue de Melun, then quickly take the small path on your left towards the Maincy bridge. At the end of the path, turn left and continue along the path through the forest. You will come out onto a field on your left with the forest on your right.
Continue straight ahead for about 550 metres until you reach a clearing with a small path on the right that descends into the forest (there is a large stone across the path to prevent motor vehicles from entering).
(4) Take the path and, after a short descent, turn right. Follow the path to the edge of the forest to reach Rue des Trois Moulins.
(5) Cross the road and immediately turn left to walk alongside the cemetery on your left. At the end of the path, turn left and go through a wooden gate. Continue straight ahead.
(6) Cross the Ru d'Ancueil via the small stone bridge and immediately turn right.
(7) After about 300 metres, turn left at the crossroads and follow the winding path uphill. After a fairly steep climb, catch your breath if necessary and turn right to come out onto a road with poor visibility.
(8) Cross it carefully and take the Chemin des Temps Perdus opposite. Immediately after entering the forest, take the path on the left. This descends into the old Temps Perdus quarry, which was in operation from 1953 to 1967. Note how nature has completely reclaimed this industrial past, then exit the quarry on the other side after climbing a cobbled path. Turn right onto a forest path. Further on, stay on the edge of the forest on your right and the field on your left. You will reach the wall of the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte park.
(9) Turn right and walk along the wall on your left. After about 300 metres, turn right and join the spillway of the château's grand canal. Turn right and continue along the path that runs alongside the stream in the forest. Then leave the forest and continue between the fields until you reach a road. Cross a field before joining the road.
(10) Follow the road to the left and continue straight towards the village. When you reach the old Maison des Carmes (on your left), continue straight on Rue Basse Poignet (leaving Rue du Pavé de l'Église on your right). After about 200 metres, turn right into the alley between two stone houses, marked with red and white markings. Turn left and ignore an alley on the right and then one on the left. At the end, turn left into Passage du Ru and follow the stream. You will come out onto Place des Fourneaux and find yourself back at the starting point (S/E).
