Description of the walk

Park near the bridge and the Abbey on Quai Dunois in Beaugency.

(S/E) Cross the bridge over the Loire following the red and white markings ofthe GR®®3, and on the other bank you’ll reach a crossroads.

(1) Take the road on the right heading south towards Chambord; stay onthe GR®®; at the next junction, turn right at the Stade Maurice Dubreuil onto theGR®®655East. At the Maison Rouge, leave the Loire embankment and theGR®® to the left to reach the Equestrian Centre.

(2) Continue along a small road running alongside the left bank of the Ruisseau de l’Ime until you reach a road with houses at La Hiauderie.
(3) Turn left onto a small road and cross the Ime via the bridge. Turn right onto the D925, taking care of traffic. Continue on to reach the bridge over the Ardoux.

(4) Cross the bridge, then leave the D925 and turn left onto the Chemin de Chaffin. Cross the D951 with care. Pass La Boulaie and continue along the Chemin de la Boulaie. Here you enter Sologne. You will soon reach the Les Bordes golf course.

(5) Go round it to the south, on tracks suitable for vehicles; take care as there are two Canadian gates to pass through. Walk along the golf course fence until you reach a metal gate.

(6) Turn right onto the straight, carriageway-style track and join theGRP®® Sentier Historique de la Vallée des Rois, also known as the Chemin des Cochons.

(7) Turn left onto it and follow the red and yellow markings; this quiet road leads to a Y-junction.

(8) Leave the Chemin des Cochons and turn left onto theGR®®3, marked in red and white, following the sign for Beaugency on a wooden signpost. Pass the Vezenne farm, and you will come to another junction immediately afterwards.

(9) Take the track on the right and cross the Ru de Vezenne. Continue through the Bois de la Demaillère until you reach a road at the edge of the woods.

(10) Cross the road and continue straight ahead to reach the multi-way junction at Chemin des Bœufs.

(11) At the foot of an electricity pylon, turn left onto the path running parallel to the power line.

(12) At the three-way junction, turn right. Cross the bridge over the Petit Ardoux and follow the edge of the Bois du Bouchet. Then turn left to enter the woods. Leave the woods to reach the Dry business park.

(13) Take the road on the left and cross the D951 with care. Turn into Rue du Beau Soleil opposite and continue to the Pont aux Vaches bridge over the Ardoux. Cross the Ardoux and turn left to reach another junction.

(14) Take the small path on the right between a field and an overgrown meadow. You’ll soon reach the Loire embankment.

(15) Turn left and continue along the embankment to the D19. Turn right onto it and you will immediately come to the Pont de Beaugency junction, which you passed on the way out.

(1) Cross the Loire via the bridge to return to the car park at Quai Dunois and Beaugency Abbey (S/E).

Notes

You can start from Beaugency station.
(2) There is sometimes a dog running loose at the Beaugency equestrian centre. It’s quite friendly; at worst, its owners will intervene if it barks too much.
Please be aware that in Sologne during the hunting season, it may be useful to check the federation’s website.
For your information, the Sologne section of the route straddles the Loiret and Loir-et-Cher departments.

A very pretty, flat landscape, often shaded, though the information provided is somewhat lacking.
