Starting and finishing at Haslemere, Surrey, the main objective, Black Down, lies in nearby West Sussex. Black Down is the highest point in West Sussex rising to 917 feet above sea level. The walk passes through a variety of landscape and offers some suggestions for alternative routes.

This Surrey walk combines two well know local landmarks in a circular walk. The route starts from Haslemere and climbs onto Gibbet Hill before continuing to take in the Devil's Punchbowl, which is a depression of sandy heath.

Let’s go for a walk in Jane Austen’s countryside around Alton, Hampshire. She lived in a nearby village and the house she once occupied is open to the public. The Jane Austen House in Chawton is where the author lived from 1809 to 1817 when due to poor health she moved to Winchester to seek medical care. It is now a museum showcasing the house as it was during Jane Austen’s time.

This walk leads to the ruins of 13th century Odiham Castle and the upper reaches of the River Whitewater, then follows the towpath along the scenic Basingstoke Canal.

Passing through the grounds of Wellington College and crossing ancient forest and heath to an iron age fort and a heritage centre, this walk has plenty of interest.
