The Vine, Hannington

Start: The Vine, Hannington (RG26 5TX) Grid ref. SU 541 553

(S/E) Turn right out of the pub, cross the village green and take the footpath to the right of the church.

(1) Bear round to the left and follow the track for 600yds.

(2) Then take a footpath bearing slightly right downhill then up to join a farm track.

(3) Go right. At the end of the track, cross the metalled lane going left then taking a footpath right on the other side that goes slightly uphill, then down towards the White Hill car park.

(4) Before reaching this, turn right on another footpath that rises towards the TV transmitter. This footpath comes out onto a lane, which you follow South for about 1000yds downhill then up to a T-junction.

(5) Go left along the lane for 500yds.

(6) Then take a track right that in 400yds returns you almost to the church (which is worth a visit). It is not far back to the pub.(S/E)

Driving to start: About 10 miles from Newbury. Go along the A339 past Kingsclere and take a turning right straight past Hannington in about 1.5 miles. The Vine is about 2 miles on the left.

Refreshments: The Vine, Hannington is a nicely situated pub that has grown over the years. It has been somewhat variable, but now provides good food and beer.
