Description of the walk

Start: The Crown, Kingsclere (RG20 5QU) Grid ref. SU 526 587

(S/E) Go down the drive of the Fieldgate centre and turn right.

(1) In another 250yds, take the second of two footpaths on the right. Follow this, the Brenda Parker Way for 1100yds along the right-hand field boundary, with views of the Kingsclere downs on the left.

(2) The footpath turns right by a barn, and comes out on a metalled road, which you follow right for 200yds past two drives.

(3) Turn left on the footpath. Ignore two footpaths to the right, and join a metalled lane for a short distance before the Brenda Parker way diverges to the right by some fishing lakes.

(4) Go forward, bearing left when it divides, and through a wood.

(5) Emerging from this, turn right along a hard track to cross a field.

(6) Bear right round a copse and go forward on a grassier track.

(7) Just before a five-bar gate, turn right and follow the left-hand field boundary until you arrive at a wooden shed belonging to model aircraft fliers. There is a welcome seat to rest on! Follow the footpath along the left-hand field boundary to rejoin the outbound (Brenda Parker) route, pass the fishing lakes.

(4) Go left down the footpath, __ignore the first turning left.

(8) Take the second left. This follows a field boundary, jinks round Porch Farm, and enters a large field. Go slightly right (if not constrained to the field boundary) to the opposite corner, where turn right off the path over a plank bridge.

(9) Walk through a hole in the hedge that brings you to the bottom of the Fieldgate sports field. (S/E)

To get to the Crown, walk down the drive, then Popes Hill almost immediately opposite.
