Portreath the Western Trail

Starting at the town's beach car park, the walk initially walking across the beach to the western side, subject to the tides climbs onto Battery Hill, then follows a Green Lane. Taking in the view as the lane leads out to the main road, the walk then works its way to Feadon Lane footpath, which skirts a holiday complex, leading to the Illogan Woods, and returning to Portreath.

Description of the walk

(S/E) Starting at the entrance to the beach car park, cross the beach to the western corner, to the ramp in the top left corner, leading up to the properties. The access road leads to Battery Hill. This road will lead up onto the top of the cliffs, passing Battery House, the castellated property.

If the tide is high, do not cross the beach. An alternative route is to head southwest over the bridge, then turn right onto Battery Hill, heading west, just before the large white castellated house, to join the route (1).

(1) Follow the path to your right upwards, which will lead into Green Lane. Head southeast and follow the lane to the end, where it meets the main road. Cross the road directly opposite, heading south. Continue along the verge to the houses and blue signs directing to Tehidy and Gwel an Mor.

(2) Follow the path around the resort with the golf course on your right. After the car park, turn right, heading southeasterly. The path will lead out towards farmland, as the path leads around the farm bank, it will be apparent. The fields slope down, join in a depression, with trees on the left in the valley.

(3) At the edge of the farm fields turn northeast down through the woods, the path will descend into the valley, cross a stream, and meet up with another defined woodland path. Continue left and down, meeting the edge of town, houses. The path joins the road, which continues, then turns sharply right and then east down the main road.

(4) Handrail the main road to the Portreath Inn, and the water trough memorial. Continue ahead into Kingsley Terrace, then turn left. The route leads around the harbour, entering the harbour under the townhouse, it will be clear. option to walk to the end of the harbour on the right, sea facing, to see the look-out hut. Walk around the harbour, on the left, to the end, where there is access to a car park, walk past the Waterside Inn, and north to the harbour wall steps up to the start point (S/E) .

During spring tides, there is a potential for flooding around the harbour area. See the image, and stay on the main road to finish at (S/E).
