Surgeon (rivière) - Affluent du canal d'Aire walks
Le Bois de Mont (short version)
Lots of paths, a beautiful crossing of the Bois (with decent tracks) and a beautiful view as you reach the plateau (but frequent fog in autumn).
2021: I've gone back to the original route, which is more pleasant.
Tour of the marshes at Beuvry
A walk through ponds, canals and marshes, where you'll be surrounded by water in the commune of Beuvry.
The Notre-Dame de Lorette Memorial
The route starts from the town of Angres (in the Lens district), one of the former mining towns of the Hauts-de-France region. After a few hundred metres, you’ll leave the main urban ring road behind to enjoy the plains, valleys and forests of Artois.
You could also start this circular loop from (10) N-D de Lorette, or from (3) Aix-Noulette, or even from (14) Souchez. There are restaurants at each potential starting point. (See the practical information below).
Cambrin and Annequin Marshes
A pleasant walk along quiet roads amidst ponds and marshes. Don’t forget your binoculars and camera. In summer, mosquito repellent will come in handy.
Around the village of Noyelles-lès-Vermelles
Set amongst open countryside and woodland, this short walk offers a lovely, cosy time with friends or family
A bit of history: the inhabitants are known as ‘noyelloises’ and ‘noyellois’, and the town was awarded the Croix de Guerre in September 1920
Vermelles Ponds Route
A short family walk through the town and countryside
From Beuvry to Noyelles via Bellenville and Moulin Buret
Route in an urban area, mainly on paths. It allows you to discover and cross the Domaine de Bellenville, the Terril and the Labourse ponds, as well as the impressive Moulin du Ballon (or Moulin Buret).
Le Bois de Mont
A very green route in the Artois hills, with two beautiful climbs and a minimum of roads.
This route, which is already difficult, becomes very difficult in wet weather. I walked it on 25/02/2026 and some of the paths were barely passable.
