Surfleet via Peter Seadike Lane to Surfleet Bank return via Macmillan Way

This walk uses quiet country lanes with open vistas across agricultural fields to arrive at river glen by Surfleet Bank and the sea lock. Follows Macmillan Way through golf course and delightful river Glen. passing under the A16 and continues along river to crosses over river to return to village hall.

Start : Surfleet Village Hall (PE11 4DA) Grid ref. TF 255 284

(S/E) Leave the car park and turn left, and then fork left in 50 yards into Hun Gate.

(1) Follow this lane for about 0.6 miles to the A152. At the A152 turn right after 100 yards turn left into Bendike Lane continue for about 0.7 miles to Peter Seadike lane.

(3) Turn right down Peter Seadike lane and about 0.8 miles to the A16.

(4) Carefully cross the A16 and continue straight on down the lane at the junction just past barns turn right down Surfleet Bank to a junction after 300 yards.

(5) Turn left and continue down Surfleet Bank after about 0.7 miles to reach houses, climb up the bank on the left to overlook water held bank by a sluice gate, continue along the bank with the Ship public house on your right.

(6) From the bank turn left over the bridge and then right keeping the bungalows on your left. Continue along the Macmillan footpath with the river glen on your right. Don't deviate from the path next to the river past the gold course on your left. continue for about 0.8 miles until you reach A16.

(7) Just before A16 take the steps down towards the river then under the A16 bridge, on exit at a T-junction take the right and follow the footpath next to the river for the next 0.8 miles.

(8) Exit onto the road cross over to the bridge footpath on the far side cross over the bridge, then re-cross the road to enter Station road first turn on your right with the churchyard on your left. Continue down this road until you return to the Surfleet Village Hall. (S/E)
