Description of the walk

Walkers’ car park at the end of Rue du Colonel Fabien (5 spaces) after the retirement home.

(S/E) Continue along the country lane that runs on from Rue du Colonel Fabien and turn onto the first path on the right. At the first fork, continue straight ahead. You will reach the path marked by the Club Vosgien; follow it to the right. Then turn immediately right. Ignore the next path on the right which leads back down towards Habsheim. The beehives are visible a little further down on the right. Head towards them.

(1) Turn left towards the reservoir.

(2) Admire Lise’s garden, then continue straight on towards the reservoir.

(3) The reservoir walls are covered in street art. The relay station terrace is no longer accessible; the path is overgrown with vegetation. Retrace your steps and turn right twice. Follow the path, ignoring all the paths leading down to Rixheim on the right. You’ll arrive at the shelter by the school orchard.

(4) Stop to admire the view and the shelter, and get your bearings using the orientation table. Turn left, then right. Follow the marked path down the slope, then turn right to reach the donkey enclosure.

(5) At the wayside shrine, turn left. Continue straight on to the end of the path. You’ll reach the path leading up from Rixheim. Take it to the left and head up to the crossroads.

(6) Here you will find a wayside shrine surrounded by boxwood and a bench. Turn left towards Bellevue, Habsheim.

(7) Bellevue de Habsheim: benches and a wayside cross. Panoramic view of the Vosges, the Black Forest, as well as the Stellantis factory and the Chalampé/Ottmarsheim industrial estate. Continue straight on down the slope towards the car park (S/E).

Notes

(4) Very nice shelter belonging to the Rixheim and Eschentzwiller arboricultural society: picnic table, orientation table, views of the Vosges and Mulhouse.

As the car park for walkers is very small and fills up as soon as the sun comes out, there are many other parking options in Habsheim, but you will need to add between 1 and 1.5 km to the route, namely:

  • along Rue du Colonel Fabien.
  • in front of the school on Rue du Champ des Dîmes.
  • around the town hall.
  • around the Church of Saint-Martin.

Worth a visit

(2) Lise's garden: the decoration changes according to the seasons, festivals and holidays.

(3) The reservoir: urban art on the walls.

(5) The enclosure for donkeys, sheep and goats.
