Description of the walk

Park in the car park at the Hambers lake.

(S/E) Walk along the lake facing east, pass the motorhome site on your left at the first junction and follow the path to the next four-way junction.

(1) Turn right towards La Tressinière. Turn left onto the tarmac road, then immediately right. Walk back down alongside the stream, past the ponds and then the D236 before turning left towards Le Petit Rocher. Turn right to reach the hamlet of Touche Ronde.

(2) Return to the D236 on the right, follow it for about 200m to the pigsty. Leave it here and turn left onto the path leading to Lorias.

(3) Continue to the right, reach a copse, and carry on to cross La Douanière. Turn 90° to the right, reach La Rocherie and the road.

(4) Turn right onto it, then leave it at the next junction to turn left and head towards Foucault. Turn sharply right here too to reach La Talbotière.

(5) Turn left onto the track, continue until you reach the junction with the D241, having passed the turn-off to La Foucheraie on your left.

(6) Cross it and head back towards La Saulaie. Turn left, follow the quarry road and rejoin the D241. Follow it down to the right as far as Les Trouallières.

(7) Turn right in the hamlet then follow the path to La Chaussée. Turn left to rejoin the D241. Follow it to the right and arrive at another junction.

(8) Turn right towards Haut Crué. At the cross, turn left and at the next junction, head right to reach La Charpenterie des Landes.

(9) Take the path on the right to La Fauchetière.

(10) Turn right, go past the transformer on the left and walk alongside the buildings, then follow the path to Haut Jauzé.

(11) Turn right. At the crossroads, turn left then immediately right to go round the Augouyère on the right until you reach the wayside shrine at the junction with the D236.

(12) Turn right onto it. Reach the four-way junction and turn left onto the road leading to the hamlet of La Ridellière.

(13) At the entrance to this hamlet, turn left for a few metres then immediately right. Then follow the path and turn right at the next junction. Reach the crossroads before the hamlet of La Broudière.

(14) Turn right. In the hamlet, take the path on the left and cross La Gibardière. Shortly afterwards, you’ll come to a T-junction.

(15) Turn right and head down to the road. Take it to the right: watch out for the dangerous bend!
Follow the road for 150m and head up the small tarmac road on the left. You will arrive at the hamlet of Le Tertre.

(16) At the entrance to the hamlet, turn right and head down to the D241. Cross it and turn right, following the road towards the village of Hambers. Before the garage, turn left, walk alongside the lake and return to the starting car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

Montaigu Chapel: situated at the summit of the 290-metre-high Montaigu hill, this chapel offers a lovely view of the Coëvrons. Built in 1402, it was dedicated to Saint Michael and welcomed pilgrims on their way to Mont-Saint-Michel. The granite altar is original and contrasts with the modern stained-glass windows.
Touche Ronde: House of the Three Bearded Men
Church of Saint-Gervais and Saint-Protais-d’Hambers: the church dates fromthe 12th century, and its Romanesque architecture was altered in the15th and17th centuries.

A beautiful hike on well-marked paths with no particular difficulties, except for the length, which is slightly underestimated on Visorando (add 1 km). There is a bit of tarmac at the end, but the roads are very quiet. Pleasant at this time of year.

a pleasant hike we took at the end of the summer, and we had the pleasant surprise of finding wild pear and apple trees along the way, as well as walnuts
just a section where the markings are a little less visible, but it went well
Lovely view of Montaigu, Mont Rochard and Vilaines la Juhel

A very pleasant hike along numerous sunken paths. Not much road, but the signposting leaves a lot to be desired in places.
We did this hike, which was rated
as easy a few days after doing the Mezangers trail, which was described as difficult. We found the Crêtes d'Hambers more difficult, even though it was slightly shorter.

A lovely route, though it’s a shame there are too many tarmac sections.

A walk taken in October, with pleasant paths and very little tarmac along the route.
Make sure you wear suitable footwear, as some paths can quickly become muddy.
