The Aron route starting from Bais

Park in the football pitch car park, to the right of the bus shelter. (Panoramic sign under the bus shelter).

(S/E) Walk to the pedestrian crossing before the junction with the Route d’Hambers.
Cross the road then take the D20 for a few metres.
After the last house, turn left onto the path leading to the River Aron.
Follow the river to the wash house, then turn left. Head up to the right until you reach the main road. Turn right until you reach the care home.

(1) Follow the dirt track just past the care home. Follow the Aron river to the crossroads on the road before the hamlet of La Bécane.

(2) Turn right, cross La Bécane and continue along the dirt track. At the top of the track, you’ll reach a T-junction.

(3) Turn left towards Les Ruisseaux and follow the signposts to the Bois du Rochard, on the edge of the forest, between fields and woodland.

(4) Turn left towards Courcorbin. Cross this hamlet and reach the D35 road.

(5) Cross the road and continue almost due north. Pass through the hamlet of La Forêt. Turn right to reach the small ponds of Bras d’Or.

(6) After the ponds, turn left onto the small tarmac road and pass in front of La Tranchandière. Reach the junction with a tarmac road.

(7) Turn left onto it and pass through the hamlets of La Haye and La Boulerie. You will reach the hamlet of La Drouardière.

(8) Just before this hamlet, take the path on the right which leads to Le Thuré.
At the Thuré junction, take the small tarmac road on the right to La Poterie. Go past this hamlet and take the dirt track that joins the D149, Route de Trans. Take care for 100m!

(9) Take care here: dangerous road. Follow it on the right until you reach the wayside shrine. Turn left onto the path. At the next junction, continue straight on and then turn right. Pass through the hamlet of La Turpinière. You will soon come to a T-junction.

(10) Here you have two options:
- turn left onto Chemin du Gué de l'Atelle, cross the Beauséjour neighbourhood, reach Grande Rue and return to the football ground car park (S/E) via the same route as on the way out.
- turn right towards Les Brosses, taking the Chemin des Brosses; this is the route shown on the map.
Turn left at the next junction onto the dirt track. At the Y-junction at La Chauvière, keep right. Cross the road, pass through the hamlet of Vaublin and then reach the junction with the D20.

(11) Cross the road, pass La Roche and begin an easy descent heading south-west. Go round the hamlet of La Rouaudière. At the next junction, turn left at a 90° angle to rejoin the D20.

(12) Walk to the right along this road, then quickly turn left into Rue de l’Europe. You’ll reach the junction with Rue de la Paix just after the secondary school.

(13) Turn right after the secondary school, use the pedestrian crossing to cross the D35 to reach the lake and then the football pitch car park (S/E).

Montesson Castle: On the road to Hambers on the outskirts of Bais stands Montesson Castle, a building constructed between^{the 14th} and^{17th centuries}. Surrounded by a moat, the castle comprises a^16th-century entrance gatehouse, the former medieval seigneurial residence and the main body of the building, constructed in^{the 17th} century. The entrance pavilion is notable for its four-sided hipped roof, its granite façade adorned with the coat of arms of the Montesson family, and its round tower with a bulbous slate roof. (Visible only from the road, except during Heritage Days).

Church of Notre Dame de l’Assomption in Bais: Of particular note are a^15th-century wooden Christ figure, three altarpieces from^{the 17th} and^18th centuries, sculpted gargoyles and capitals, and Romanesque paintings. The Coëvrons Art and History Region regularly organises guided tours of this church.
